See TUTORIAL: How to change device names in Device Manager (Read Windows 10 comments in post #10)
FYI,
On a desktop PC, if your monitor says Generic PNP Monitor, you've not loaded the monitor's driver. I've an NEC monitor which is identified as an NEC monitor because I installed the monitor's driver....
And yes.... monitor's can have their own drivers!!! Here's that Samsung's monitor's drivers: Curved LED Monitor (CF39x Series) | Owner Information & Support | Samsung US
The monitor is plug and play and EDID information is sent to the PC to which it is connected.
That Samsung monitor "driver" is actually the INF file, colour profile ICM, and an extra Samsung application. The latter you may or may not want.
The monitor name is in the INF.
Basically just extract the INF, ICM and CAT files and install that.
The Samsung Monitor setup EXE may give you that choice, no idea.
I have a Dell monitor which has separate downloads for the INF ("driver") and a Dell App. However that was not necessary as the INF was auto-downloaded and installed when first connected. The model name and so forth was as it should be.
Hey, it's me again. I still haven't found a solution. What I'm curious about is, can we change this name to any reg entry?
