updating nvidia drivers
my laptop is alienware 17 r5 i9 and it has nvidia geforce gtx 1080 graphics card. i am currently on windows 10 build 1809
is having the latest windows build a requirement to install new drivers? i asked a nvidia support agent about that. he said that the new drivers are optimized for updated windows and that i may have performance issues if i am using an outdated windows build. i dont think he's correct. my laptop is quite powerful and it has high specs
he also said that if i have an old graphics card then no need to update the drivers for it. gtx 1080 is not that old and it's still powerful. he also said "if it's not broken then don't fix it"
i am lost and i don't know what to do. should i completely stop updating my nvidia drivers and i only update when i have issues?
my laptop also has an intel card driver. i am ignoring updating the drivers for it and i update every 4 to 6 months. i don't want to ignore my nvidia card because it's my main card and i rely on it but at the same time i am worried that there could be issues if i update
for example before i was on version 441.41. i skipped version 441.66 and i installed 441.87. i sometimes skip a version and i install the next one. is what i am doing ok? or i should skip more than one version and then i install new version?
there is another issue. i am seeing in the release notes for the drivers that some games are crashing and they are fixing those crashes. thus they are constantly doing changes and they fix some issues and they introduce bugs as they fix issues. for example for Game Ready Driver 441.87 FAQ/Discussion : nvidia they said that they fixed the crashing in gta online but a guy commented in CES Game Ready Driver Introduces New Gaming Features, Support For Wolfenstein: Youngblood Ray Tracing, New G-SYNC Compatible displays, and More and he said that witcher 3 doesn't work on 441.87
if there is a game crash then do these crashes happen for all people and all types of graphics cards? or it's random and it happens for some but not for all?
if there is a need to rollback to an old driver then how do i do that? is there the need to be extreme and i run ddu in safe mode and i wipe all nvidia files? or no need for that and doing clean install during the setup of the old driver is enough so it deletes the files of the new version?
