Windows pushed a new nvidia driver via update

Just checked windows updates manually and a new nvidia driver got pushed. I never update them myself but got a big leap in version number to 432.00. Anyone else getting the same? Some brief testing seems fine in aftermath but I tried googling and even checking the gpu thread but there is no info on this version number. It only made me raise an eyebrow because I ran 3D mark after and on the result page it said my driver is not an approved one. Result was ok, dropped maybe a couple hundred marks which prob equates to 1 FPS in games but seems strange given that MS has pushed it out to me

oh i wrote an article about it once few years ago here Windows 10 Automatic Driver Updates Hell Corner , they do not just silently push drivers on you , they even silently push faulty drivers on you that can make you crash often or slow down your performance and surprisingly its a per case scenario , like back then i had a cousin that lives in a different country but bought same laptop and model as mine but never had that .
so basically i reached the phase where i had to upgrade to window 10 pro so i can disable hardware drivers update through winodws update and also disable automatic driver update since both help pushing those faulty drivers . not just that , even with all these settings i disabled and the fee i had to pay to upgrade to pro , yet still with every windows version upgrade they push on us the drivers update again but this time you may find your entire list updated to hideous buggy versions . so i suggest you keep a folder of your trusty set of drivers as backup in case of version upgrades , and do disable "auto driver updates" and "include drivers in windows update" on pro version of windows . i say pro because its broken on home version , they would still push updates on you even after disabling these options .

    Cheers

I have been using Nvidia Graphics drivers for a very long time ~ 17 years.

On the PC I am using now there have been 7 Nvidia driver updates in 6 years coming from Windows Updates.
Some have come during one of those version updates, some in between those dates.

They have all worked just fine, the current one is not listed by Nvidia, however that does not matter.

I have tested them all and there has been essentially no change at all in that time.
I have a full set of 3 benchmark results from 3DMark over those years.

6 years ago (Windows 8.1) - 5713, xxx, 1067. the xxx is because there were errors, test refused to run.
    Now (Windows 10) - 5724, 4158, 1115.
No point in quoting the rest they are all very similar, also similar to those with the same hardware.

"I ran 3D mark after and on the result page it said my driver is not an approved one. Result was ok, dropped maybe a couple hundred marks which prob equates to 1 FPS in games but seems strange given that MS has pushed it out to me ".

It does not matter about that so called 'approval', it is only their view.

You are worrying about nothing. Be happy, ignore the nay sayers.

So they are trying to push this driver that causes crashes in GTA5?

How do I block this? The Windows update block tool doesn't detect this driver...

Well strange you mention that as you base your opinion about personal experience where the nay sayers base it on theirs too :) so what makes your experience more authentic than others ?

Let me hint this which i mentioned in yet another "Hell Corner" post here Tearing / Artifacts on Intel HD Graphics Family 4th & 5th Gen A Fact , there seem to be a non solved artification glitch on 4th & 5th gen gpus of intel on HD and up resolutions , that they have dedicated a certain driver to solve it and never gave it an update , if you let it to windows it will continue to update your driver regardless .

Its also known that brand new hardware are often unstable till manufacturers figure all the bits and backfires , so usually the trend is to just wait a bit for other adventurers reporting stability before just updating .

Mind you 90% of recommendations through out any trouble shoot in forums or even done by microsoft support is to revert to manufacturer's version of drivers as these are usually more optimized to hardware than generic ones .

So yea there are a lot of evidence out there that non planned drivers push just cause more problems than they solve .

    Cheers

Same issue reported here: OP reports 3rd party tools don't help either.

Disconnet Internet. Use DDU to uninstall current driver fully and then then download and install latest one from nVidia. Check top section on this same forum. I think naughty Windows Update is pushing those "newer" driver versions because nVidia has fixed some security issues (CVE advisories) lately. I also have got an nVidia card (GTX 1070). In my humble opinion, latest nVidia drivers favour newest RTX cards because performance has got a lot to be desired (and newest Intel vulnerabilities on top of that). I think my new system will be a Ryzen one with AMD card.

What's the point of unintalling if you want to install the latest driver anyway.

Just let the Windows Update install 432.00, reboot and then download/install the latest driver.

Also it is extremely funny that this forum contains 1 group of people that will say that realtek 8843 driver is massively better than 8831 driver that was only 1 week old, and that 8831 driver is massively better than 8825 driver that is 3 days older. Then there is another group that ignores that nVidia just released their security bulletin last week and this update may have to do with that.

That's an interesting tip but like you see in the page there is always a driver causing denial of service or elevated privileges , then they eventually put out an update that fixes those but may slow down everything etc and we are in this loop forever .

So the thing is eventually we come across a driver we are comfy with and find our favorite games run fast enough to so we want to keep it ! for instance Mortal Kombat XL tears for me on majority of drivers except for one and no its not a V/G-sync problem .

So would I trade that driver for whatever DDOS fixing driver that I don't even know of or have experienced ever on my gaming laptop ? pass (At least until i get a copy of MK 11 ) .

So yea sometimes we do not like forced pushes .

But it also make complaining to nvidia and Microsoft completely useless because they view it as a security issue.
