    New Graphics Card Selection

I'm looking for a new graphics card to give a better frame rate at 2560x1440 pixels than my current Sapphire AMD R9 280X card.

The choice is probably between a GeForce RTX 2060 Super, GeForce RTX 2070 and Radeon RX 5700 XT. The GeForce RTX 2070 Super is too expensive. When buying new components I always look at the user feedback on Amazon for poor reviews (1 and 2 star reviews). I've surveyed many cards and was surprised to find very poor ratings for most of them - issues were premature failure, over heating and display artefacts. I only found the following cards having a reasonable user feedback rating:

    GeForce RTX 2070
EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 (08G-P4-2277-KR) - but too expensive at over £550

    GeForce RTX 2060 Super
Zotac GAMING GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER AMP
Zotac GAMING GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER AMP Extreme
EVGA GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER XC GAMING
MSI GEFORCE RTX 2060 SUPER VENTUS OC

    Radeon RX 5700 XT
    No reliable cards in survey

    Please advise:

    1. Which graphics card manufacturers offering cards based on the above GPUs stand out as being more reliable?
    2. NVidia supply graphics cards direct using their reference design. Are the graphics cards supplied direct from NVidia noted for good reliability?
    3. The GeForce cards have ray tracing. Is this a feature really worth having looking ahead say 5 years?

If you can afford it...definitely go with the RTX 2070. You'll thank yourself in the long run.

    1. EVGA - they use better quality hardware then most. I think it's just a better end product. I have a GeForce 1060 3GB on this old system.

    2. Yes....Those are just the blue print PCB's for the GPU manufacturers to add their specific hardware/software to.

    3. Yes...if the game can use it, it makes a huge difference in the lighting effects.

Ray tracing allows for dramatically more lifelike shadows and reflections, along with much-improved translucence and scattering. The algorithm takes into account where the light hits and calculates the interaction and interplay much like the human eye would process real light, shadows, and reflections, for example. The way light hits objects in the world also affects which colors you see.

The particular RTX 2070 that you list is an expensive one. There are other choices, including eVGA models, for less than £400 (including VAT). New, GeForce RTX 2070, Desktop Graphics Cards, Video Cards & Video Devices, Components - Newegg.com

I'd trust any of the makers in the Newegg list. (Even Zotac.) I had a bad noise experience with a blower type 2080 card, so I suggest avoiding those. Here's one: MSI GeForce RTX 2070 DirectX 12 RTX 2070 AERO 8G Video Card - Newegg.com

I use only EVGA Graphics cards, I have never had one go bad.

I have had three graphics cards fail over the years. One was a 3dfx Voodoo 1 card with a broken trace on its PC board. (Replaced under warranty.) Another was a TNT2 that I overclocked fairly heavily. (Wrote that one off, as I messed with it a bit too much.) The most recent was some sort of nVidia GTX from BFG in 2009. (Replaced under warranty. Don't recall the card's model.)

I think that eVGA is a great manufacturer, and they are a pleasure to deal with. However, the probability of a card failure is low enough that I am willing to deal with other makers. My most recent nVidia card is from Gigabyte, not exactly a fly-by-night company.

Yes, EVGA is a great brand although I do not have any card manufactured by them. Do they also have AMD cards? If not, what is a good brand for AMD cards?.

They solely manufacture NVIDIA cards. Sapphire is the best one for AMD for me. XFX isn't bad either.

Manufacturer does not play a role only the analysis of pcb for the particular card do you want to buy.

I remember evga 1070 and 1080 that has problem and ask buyer to add a pad.

    Every manufacturer has bad products.
