I haven't been able to install Nvidia DCH drivers in at least a year. I have been using the Standard drivers. The first thing I notice when installing the DCH drivers is that my screen does not go blank or change resolution as the Standard drivers do during the install. This is my first indication the install will fail. The message when done is the the Nvidia drivers failed to install. I have tried everything I can think of, short of installing Windows clean, to try and get the DCH drivers to install. These include.

    1. An in place update of Window 10. Not to be confused with a clean install.
    2. Ran the 3rd party DDU program to get rid of all traces of Nvidia.
    3. Ran the install program as Admin.
    4. Checked the box on the Nvidia install screen to perform a clean install.
    5. Installed over my current Standard driver.

I notice that at this moment the newest drivers only come as DCH. I hope this doesn't mean Standard will be going away. That being said how the heck can I get the DCH drivers to install?

Yes, a little annoying. However, if you use DDU to uninstall drivers, tick the option to remove DCH control panel. When you then install the new driver it will automatically install the DCH control panel, no need to d/l from the MS store. I installed this way and not really any difference.
What are the disadvantages of using the DCH version compared to the standard one?
Is it worthwhile to upgrade to DCH or should I stick with the standard version?

    Thank You.

There are no real disadvantages. They're the same driver overall. I just find UWP apps annoying, and the fact that the Nvidia Control Panel is a UWP app with the DCH version bugs me. That's just personal preference though. You'll be fine upgrading.

I see there's not any 496.13 Studio driver. I'm not a gamer (outgrew it), so will pass on this.

Functionally, there is no difference between NVIDIA’s Standard and DCH drivers. While the base core component files remain the same, the way DCH drivers are packaged and installed differs from previous (Standard) drivers. When directly comparing the two driver types, the DCH driver package has a smaller size and a faster installation time than the Standard package.

It's about 1.5GB installed according to Driver Store Explorer.
