    Monitor Issue

    Hello,

I'm having a problem with the color of my monitor, this issue has been going on for about a week or so and I suspect it has to do something with the new 1903 update Microsoft has issued. I turned off my monitor for an hour because I needed to do something and then came back turned it back on and see something like this:

As you can see there is dark colors around my desktop, my taskbar is the same thing and you can see that the thumbnail for the recycle bin is completely dark. Instead of my taskbar being blue, it's completely dark and the icons on that taskbar have really bad colors and they're not the correct colors as they use to be before. The desktop background is suppose to be a night sky with stars and a green tent, instead it's completely dark showing little to no color. Some of the Icons on my desktop (like the GTA 5 icon) are dark, as you can see for the gta 5 logo instead of the V being green it's completely dark.

I've tried the following things which have worked but after I turn off my monitor for about an hour or so, the problem still occurs:
    • Rebooting the PC- I've done this more than once, it does fix the issue. However, as mentioned before the same problem happens after I leave my monitor off for an hour.
    • Unplugging the cable that goes from the port on the back of my GPU to my monitor as well as from my monitor, wait for about 10 seconds then plug it back in- I've just tried this method and I'm waiting to see of that fixes the issue, so far it looks like its fixed but I'm trying to see if leaving my monitor off for an hour or longer will cause the same issue to happen. I'm not sure if a loose cable or wire causes this type of issue but I would be surprised if something like this fixes it. I'll let you guys know in the comments whether or not it resolves the issue I'm having.

    My questions are:
1.Could this issue be an issue with the Operating system within windows 10 (1903)? I know a lot of people are currently having issues with screen dis colorization due to the recent cumulative update from Microsoft and I'm curious to know if the issue I'm having is one of them. I do believe that this problem started happening a few days or a week after I did the 1903 update which was on August 29th of 2019.

    2. Could it be just a loose cable on both ends of my GPU and monitor, maybe unplugging and plugging it back in will have better connection, thus resolve the issue I'm having?

    3. Could it be a driver for the display adapter that isn't compatible with the new version of windows 10? I'm afraid that if I do update it then another issue would happen or the issue will never be fixed and I would have to wait a month for Microsoft to release its patches the first or second Tuesday of every month (Patch Tuesday).

I'm not sure if the drivers like the NVIDIA 3D Vision driver and the graphics driver from NVIDIA (which where removed via add or remove programs after the update took effect) caused something like this to happen due to the fact that there is a cable that goes from the back of my GPU to my monitor. The specs of my PC and model of my monitor are on my profile if you'd like to have a look at them. I did have night light turned on while doing the upgrade and I'm not sure if it's the one that is causing the issue, I did turn it off to see if it makes any difference and so far it hasn't. I also had an issue with it not working properly after my monitor went into power save mode, basically after it went under power save mode, the night light feature would stop working even when it says that it's turned on.

If you guys can provide me with as much help as possible, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help!

    A random thought:

In the Color Management control panel, is the PC set up to use a profile?

If not, you could choose one.

If yes, you could try a different one.

Are you referring to the Nvidia control panel, like i can right click on my desktop and click on where it says "Nvidia control Panel" which would give me a window for settings or are you referring to something else?

No, I refer to the Win10 control panels.

I just checked that setting, and there are no profiles that its using I don't have the option to add one since it's greyed out like Remove, Set as Default Profile and Profiles. At the top where it says Device, it says Display: 1. Generic PnP Monitor - NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1060 6GB. I can't use the drop down because that too is greyed out and the "Identify Monitors" option is also greyed out since I'm only using one monitor.

This is under the "Devices" tab.

Also, I'm still waiting if unplugging the cable that goes from my monitor to my GPU and vice versa fixed my problem, I'm not sure if a loose cable like that could cause something like this to happen.

    This is what I get:

    Monitor Issue-capture.jpg

Some of the profiles are from a calibration using a photometer.

Aside from that, I suggest downloading the "drivers" for your monitor: https://www.dell.com/support/home/us...onitor/drivers, even though they probably have nothing to do with your issue. (I say "drivers" because the main thing is just an .inf file that identifies the monitor.)

I think that a defective cable is possible. Wiggling the connectors could diagnose that.

Use different cables, quite likely you can use HDMI or DisplayPort with that monitor.
Maybe an EDID problem due to the cable as it should be identified as a Dell Monitor and indeed a "driver" and colour profile would have been automatically downloaded and added to your All Profiles list in the Colour Management dialogue box.

Even with one monitor the Identify button should work, also it should show the Dell monitor model not "Generic PnP Monitor".

Maybe you should be using the SFC and DISM command line stuff to make sure of a decent Windows 10 install.

The image is too low quality and taken under a light bulb light to see anything properly.

Settings>system>display>night light got me the first time I used 1903 as my screen went very dark yellow.....you say you had it enabled, it might have stuck a setting somewhere when you disabled it. There was also a night light and colour profile issue/bug with 1903 initially, which was fixed after a few updates. Are you up to date on all updates?

I hardware calibrate my screen - do you have access to a colormunki or spyder calibrator. This will help rule out a profile issue.

Also, what happens if you use light theme and a light wallpaper? ...and turn off power save to trobleshoot.

As a last resort, an in-place reinstall ( keeping programs and personal files ) can work wonders to just start over.

I unplugged the cable from both the monitor and my video card, the problem looked like it was resolved after a week but then came back. I did turn off the power save mode on my monitor and I'm wondering if that will fix my issue, which leads me into my question

    1. Do these issues happen when the power save mode is on for my monitor? When I'm AFK I would usually turn off my monitor, after an hour or so i would turn it on and come across this issue as i've mentioned above.

    2. Could the power save mode feature on my monitor be causing the issue? When I turn on my monitor I see the power save mode message and then either my monitor turns on normally or just ends up with weird looking colors.

Again, thanks for the help, i thought i had this issue fixed but then it came back which resulted in me marking this thread as "unsolved".

I have an older monitor that does something similar, when it gets warmed up the colours are wrong, this can happen every day, every few days or after a week, it does the same on PC and when plugged into laptop (one connected by DVI-D, other by VGA), conclusion, it's the monitor.
Do you have a way to test it on another PC?
