I will change my graphic card / doubt about legacy / uefi bios

    Hello guys.

    This is my pc.

    - Amd Phenom ii X6 1090 T

    - 12 GB RAM

    - GTX 460 MSI 1GB

    - Motherboard Asus M4A87TD/USB3

Let me explain you guys, on many forums i have read that many guys have problems with some NVIDIA OR AMD cards, because of legacy/uefi bios, because some old motherboards doesn't recognize the graphic card.

Here in Chile are so expensive the graphics of Nvidia, AMD are more cheap, then on another forum recommend me to buy a Amd Radeon RX 570 OR RX 580, but i'm afraid that my motherboard will not recognize the graphic card. Some guys that have experience on that matter can tell me if i will have some issue with my motherboard.

    Thanks.

find one similar card to one you are planing to buy on amazon.com then ask : "Will it work on Amd Phenom ii X6 1090 T board ?" , usually you will get a reply from someone who tried it and worked or didn't .

It should work fine be it UEFI or Legacy.

My main system uses Legacy BIOS and an RX 570 so all is well.

Then do you think that will not have any problem with my mobo ? , with some legacy i know it's works, the problem probably will be with my mobo that doesn't recognize it.

    Thanks my friend.

A little Web searching suggests that an RX-570 or RX-580 works on some non-UEFI motherboards.

I think you're probably OK, but it may be wise to buy a card from a source that accepts returns in the unlikely even that there is a problem.

Here is the procedure I recommend for the swap:

Make sure that the motherboard has it latest BIOS installed. (From 2011.)

(Have the installer for the Radeon drivers already downloaded, or use the CD.)

    Uninstall the nVidia drivers.

Power down the PC. (Do not reboot.)

    Swap cards.

    Power up.

If the system boots, install the Radeon drivers.

In the past, I have had to clear the CMOS before the new graphics card isn't properly recognized at first. Try that if the system won't boot with the new graphics card.

    Best of luck.

Thanks for the answer my friend, yes the motherboard have the latest bios installed from the 2011, i have not updated it because there is no new updates, the problem here is that no one will accept an opened graphic card, only if the graphic card is defectous or have some problem, they will send the graphic to the technical service, i hope it works, i think i will buy it tomorrow.

    ASRock Phantom Gaming D Radeon RX570 8G OC (PG D RADEON RX570 8G OC)

Gigabyte Video AMD RX 570 4GB Gaming | PC Factory

Which of this 2 graphic cards do you recommend me ?, i know that gigabyte it's better but Asrock have 8 GB, the difference of price of this 2 is little.

    Thanks for the support.

Sorry that a return may be difficult. In the US, some vendors will allow you to return a product at will, but you'd have to pay a 15% "restocking" fee. (Better than keeping something that can't work.)

I don't know which to recommend. Gigabyte has a larger presence in graphic cards, but Asrock is a pretty good company as well. (I have an Intel X99 motherboard from them.) I might go for the Asrock, although you may not get a large advantage from the extra VRAM.

One thing: the cards require an auxiliary PC-E power connector. Do you have one?

I think there's no reason your motherboard shouldn't accept the GPU. The only thing I can think of otherwise is because of the power limitation of the PCI-e slot that can offer (Which is only important on graphics cards that do not have any auxiliary power connector.)

If the graphic card come defectous they will send it to technical service, but if the graphic card doesn't work on my computer they will not refund my money, i will lose it.

Yes i have the power connector, the version of Asrock use 6 pin like the GTX 460 that i have now, and the GTX 460 use a little bit more energy than the RX 570.

    I hope it works.

Thanks you guys for the amazing support.

My friend, the GTX 460 that i have use a little bit more power than the RX 570, and have the power connector of 6 pin

Images of my pc, take a look.

    20190411 181157 — Postimage.org

The GTX 460 use 2 connectors 6 + 6 , the RX 570 only use one of 6 pin the version of ASROCK.

Take a look to the specs of my motherboard.

    Thanks.

    I have a 6GB Nvidia GTX1060 working quite well with a Phenom II X6 1090T on an Asus M4A88TD-V-EVO USB3 motherboard

    Also originally had a GTX460 in it, followed by a GTX680 then a GTX970.
