If it's for the video card in your system specs, I've had much better luck using a DVI to VGA adapter on my 2 computers with the missing VGA socket.

And Yes, adapters/converters can degrade what they are intended to do.

The video on an HDMI port is digital. VGA is analog. An HDMI to VGA adapter is an active device, which may degrade the signal.

If you had a DVI-I output, it includes analog signals. However, if the card is the RX-570 that you mention in another post, it may have DVI-D, which is only digital. That means that all of the outputs on that graphics card are digital.

If you can't replace the monitor with one that accepts DisplayPort, HDMI, or DVI-D, maybe you can find a better HDMI to VGA adapter.

Didn't know about the "other post" or "different card model", does make a big difference.

Careful. An inexpensive DVI to VGA adapter only works if the graphics card's DVI port is DVI-I (digital and analog), not DVI-D (only digital). If the card is an RX-570, it may have DVI-D.

There may be active DVI-D to VGA adapters, but you may be no better off than with an HDMI to VGA or DP to VGA adapter.

The GTX 650 card image on Amazon does show 2 different DVI sockets, number of 'pins' different.

The OP hasn't been clear, but I doubt that the card in question is the GTX 650 in the profile.

If it is the GTX 650, one example I looked at had a DVI-D and a DVI-I port, both dual link.

Just going by the OPs listed Computer specs, can only work with what we're told.
