85 is average for for those cards.

You should be looking to grab this driver update

Do you mean to suggest that this new driver will make the card run cooler?

I don't see that in the link.

What does Afterburner say for the max temperature for the 1660ti GPU? for my card (2080 Super), I get 84C.

I wouldn't be pleased to see that in normal use, but legalistically, the OP's card may be staying in spec.

Need to address case airflow too as Berton said in post 2, system specs would help

Nope that's not what I was getting at at all but it is something everyone should do, since they can include bug fixes, solve performance issues and in some rare cases even make the card run cooler on some games, and in some cases (intel), they can help mitigate known/found vulnerabilities. What I suggested, is that if he hasn't already, then he should be updating & keeping a look out for new nvidia drivers. Also I suggested that he should look into a water cooled solution if he doesn't like his card getting that hot, I don't know why you decided to snip that part out.

That looks a poor/inefficient/small design of cooler considering it could be dissipating 120 watts.
The fan speed should be at 100% with 100% GPU usage. Does not matter what the default fan profile of your software is.

I'm not surprised at your temperatures at half fan speed.
I never had this prblm with gtx 770 and 1650ti

I wasn't trying to negate your suggestions about additional cooling.

I just wondered whether there was any connection between drivers and cooling. (I didn't think so, but I can't claim to be an expert.)

My own experience with water cooling is limited. I had a graphics card with an add-on all-in-one water cooler (from eVGA). The pump acted like it was starting to fail (after a few years), so I recently restored the original air cooling. The card wasn't clockable any higher with the water than with air, and it is quiet enough with the OEM cooler, so that's how it will stay. I hope that I have better luck with the AIO water cooler for my CPU; I don't want to go back to huge air coolers.

You may have to use a different Afterburner skin to see the temperature limit. It's present in that one, but only 5 rows are displayed at a time. Example:

    new gpu high temperature-afterburner_skin.jpg

The default "temp limit" for my card is 84C. It can be raised to 88C. I presume that sets the point where throttling occurs.

It's showing a temperature limit of 83C, so you'd get some throttling with the card at 85C.

I'm not experienced in changing the fan settings. However, click on the settings button (leftmost of the 3 under the "fan speed" bar). Select the "fan" tab. Check the "enable user defined software automatic fan control" box. This is what follows for mine:

Like "Helmut" posted (and I doubted), the fan speed goes to 100% at the max temperature. (100% fan is much too noisy for my card.) You may need to adjust your fan speed profile to keep the card cooler than Asus's stock settings. I hope that you can do that without making it too noisy.

If you can post a similar shot, maybe someone can give more detailed advice. I don't have a 1660ti.
