Monitor menu not working and monitor acting "weird"

    Hey there,

first up sorry, i am not even sure this is the right category for this post. if it is at the wrong place feel free to move it.

    Monitor: Samsung Syncmaster XL 2370

I am using this monitor as my second one and it is actualy doing all it has to do. there are just 2 things which are odd.

Atleast once a day the Brightness menu pops up, does nothin, but the button on the monitor actualy greys out. I dont know why that is.
And the monitor menu on the monitor itself, like all the buttons, even turning on and off, do NOT work at all. i press them and nothin happens. no reaction at all.

I hope somebody can help me with that.

    Best regards!

LED Monitor (XL2370-1 Series) | Owner Information & Support | Samsung US
you can have better support if you joined their community , as for what you are experiencing i did check the specs and it seems this monitor has a brightness sensor [Magic Picture ControlsMagicBright 3®, MagicWizard, MagicTune] to adjust brightness in case it gets dim in the room all of a sudden , so freezing controls are a sign of sensor flooding the control chip with data which causes it to freeze , so my suggestion would be to disable that feature as the sensor seems failing or your room light setup might have changed recently to become sensor unfriendly (Plazma lights , lava lights maybe ?) .

Nope, room light is the same as always, nothing changed there. Turning off that feature sounds good but how do i do that if i cant even access the menu? The menu doesnt work at all at any given time.

Edit: oh wait, the first time after a very long time i could turn off the monitor. So here is what happened. The brightness option showed up again automatically and stood there for about 5 minutes on the screen. After it went away i thought i might try pushing buttons randomy and here it worked, the first time after months.
But that seems to be a oneshot wonder, cause i could only turn it off and on once, now nothin is working again.

well in that case i suggest you find the sensor (usually similar to a camera eye hopefully if not embedded into the body like ir sensor) and then put a piece of dark tape above it.
