Brightness Control in Version 1809?

Brightness Control in Version 1809 Desktop?

I gather there isnt a brightness slider in the action center in Version 1809--though its been added to 1903.

However, Ive seen that one of those rectangular panelsin the Action Center is supposed to offer a way of calibrating brightness in 1809. It's supposed to have some sort of brightness icon on it. Yet I don't see that at all in Action Center on my desktop PC. I do see Night Light, but not a panel for brightness control. Why is that? Is that only on laptops?

Nor do I see any brightness slider or controls in my Settings under Display. Though I looked in every nook and cranny there

I can calibrate Brightness/Contrast/ Gamma from within my intel HD Graphics settings.

My graphics card is an integrated Intel HD graphics:

    Driver Version
    Driver Date 11/26/2012
    Core i3

There are no driver updates available for this

It is very difficult to manage the sliders there.

Is there not some way to simply increase and decrease brightness using the Windows 10 settings?

Adjust Screen Brightness in Windows 10
Tutorial- note this refers to laptops or tablets.
(I don't have a desktop, so someone with a desktop will most likely comment further).
    • You might not see the Change brightness for the built-in display slider on desktop PCs that have an external monitor. To change the brightness on an external monitor, use the buttons on it.
    • The Brightness slider appears in action center in Windows 10, version 1903. To find the brightness slider in earlier versions of Windows 10, select Settings > System > Display, and then move the Change brightness slider to adjust the brightness.
An interesting option: this free utility - although better known for volume control using the scroll wheel- also has an option for controlling brighness using a key plus scroll wheel which you can configure. (Unless something else is wrong of course)
Volumouse - control the sound volume with a wheel mouse

Thank you. But "Change Brightness Level" does not exist in my Desktop settings, nor does the slider shown next to "Modify Brightness" in settings. Are those found only in Laptops?

There are no buttons on my external monitor

I havent found anything in those links which pertain to this..I don't think that Free Utility--if it really can be configured for Brightness instead of Sound-- would be any less circuitous than digging into the settings of that Intel HD Graphics Card which dates back to 2012. so its not being updated

-if it really can be configured for Brightness instead of Sound
Actually BOTH volume AND brightness. E.g. CTRL + scroll, ALT + scroll
I have used it, if you don't believe me.

    Independent article:
Adjust sound volume, even screen brightness, with your mouse using Volumouse - Freeware Downloads - TheFreeWindows

Volumouse can also be used for increasing or decreasing the brightness of the screen. Just select this function from the drop down box in the configuration card.
And see Nirsoft's great site- many commended free utilities.

As to whether it will work in your configuration, I can't definitively say. But I do know it can be set up to adjust brightness.

So you simply press a key and scroll.

There may well be other such utilities.

ok dalchina. I may give Volumouse a shot then...I do see some other interesting utilities there as well. So thanks

Would anyone know if the return of the brightness slider in 1903 is for desktops as well as laptops?

On Win10 Pro v.1903, I have two-external monitors running off my Surface Pro 6 which itself has a built-in display (i.e. I have a three-display system). Changing the brightness slider in Settings > Display only adjusts the Surface Pro 6's built-in screen regardless which display I have selected. e.g. Select "2" (an external Dell 4K LED monitor) and move the slider, nothing happens on the Dell monitor, but the Surface Pro 6 screen brightens/darkens. Ditto for selecting "3" which is another external LED monitor.

Best Brightness Control Software for Windows 10
Random find: More brightness control software- but nothing said about laptops/desktops/external monitors in the article, alas, except the last (I may have missed something). And that one isn't specified for Win 10, looking at its site - but might work, I suppose.

    Brightness controller supports multiple monitors.

Oh yes. I do actually use one of those in:

Best Brightness Control Software for Windows 10

    Namely: Gamma Panel

I happen to love it. Will check out some of the others

It was written back in 2002, but survived several operating systems, with lots of glitches though. There are several reports of Version 1903 crashing it. Which is one reason I'm holding off installing that feature update.

My intention in this post was: Where is the built-in Windows 10 brightness control? And it just seems that some have it and many just do not. Since several 3rd party brightness control features no longer work with 1903, I was hoping at least the built in Windows control was working right. But seems--often it just doesn't work or isnt there
