Best way to update NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 drivers?

I have a Surface Book 2 and it uses the GTX 1060 and Intel UHD Graphics 620.

When I look at the drivers on the NVIDIA website and my own drivers for the 1060, it seems I'm out of date. I'm wondering if I need the NVIDIA app or if I can update these drivers through Device Manager whilst logged in under an admin account?

I had assumed that Windows 10 updates took care of updating all the drivers for my system, but maybe that is not the case for graphics cards?

My 1060 driver version is 391.40 and the version on the NVIDIA website are all 419 +.

I'm not sure if I need game ready or creator ready.

Please try this:
Download Display Driver Uninstaller
Extract DDU on desktop
Download these drivers Nvidia 430.64 and save it to desktop

Reboot computer in to the Safe Mode use option one
Run Display Driver Uninstaller
Click on the options
Check Prevent downloads of drivers from Windows update when Windows search for a driver for a device (close, ok)
Select device type GPU (Nvidia)
Clean and restart
Now run Nvidia drivers installer 430.64
Select custom
Uncheck EVERYTHING except the GPU Driver and PHYSX
Check the CLEAN INSTALL box
Finish install
Reboot

Windows updates will update them but certainly not at the rate Nvidia issues them. That is not necessary, nor is DDU
I have never used a 'latest' Nvidia driver, or DDU, for 18 years and never will.

You can also go via the Device Manager route on some laptops.

Everything works, why deliberately sabotage things.

This latest Graphics driver bit is for fanatical gamers on Desktops who must have latest games and drivers for no other reason than they exist.

@Grom0X thanks for your reply. I appreciate your response, but I wouldn't be comfortable in performing your steps. I feel that is too technical for my abilities, even with your clear instruction. I'm not being argumentative when I ask this - but why do you suggest uninstalling the driver before installing a new one? Once again, not trying to create an argument, I am trying to learn about these things.
@Helmut that makes sense. I just thought that it was good to keep everything up to date? I don't play games that require a lot of power, just some shmups on Steam.

Your Surface device uses the nVidia "Optimus" scheme. (Optimus Technology|NVIDIA)

I have never dealt with it myself. You may face some difficulties getting it to work properly if you update the nVidia and Intel graphics drivers separately. I can't advise you on how to set that up.

Extra points:

1. Always make a system disk image before updating drivers—that leaves you only about 30 minutes from full recovery if anything goes wrong.
You might as well check all your main hardware for new drivers since you have an image—sound, network etc.

2. Get drivers from the original component manufacturer when possible, they'll always be more up-to-date than Microsoft or others. Example for graphics cards:
1st choice nVidia or AMD;
2nd choice card maker, eg Gigabyte etc;
3rd choice Microsoft.

3. Make a note of your main hardware drivers' webpages, and visit say every quarter to see what's in the recent updates. If there's nothing applicable to you, and you don't have problems, then no need to update.
