Nvidia Control Panel custom res causes 10-bit colour to revert back!

I have an issue and it is exclusive since the Windows 10 upgrade.

I never ever had this problem in Windows 8.1 in the 4 years that I've used my 4K monitor.

Basically I am able to select 10-bit colour mode for my Samsung U28E590 4K monitor. It is a 10-bit display panel with a billion colours. This option is selectable if I don't create custom resolution.

The problem is that my refresh rate shows as 59hz. In order for Windows to display 60hz refresh rate I need to choose custom resolution and set it to 60.001.

This issue gets fixed but then the 10-bit colour option reverts back to 8-bit. How can I fix it so I can have a custom resolution but the colour bit not to revert back to 8-bit? If I select 10-bit and hit apply it reverts back to 8-bit in a custom resolution mode. But if I delete the custom resolution of 3840x2160 then 10-bit works but display resolution is 59hz!

I don't know if this will help, but worth a shot I guess:
Have you tried setting the refresh rate in settings first, then the bit-depth in Nvidia CP?

That works as a non custom resolution. Nvidia Control Panel custom res causes 10-bit colour to revert back!-59-hz.jpg
But as we can see Refresh rate is showing 59 Hz! You seem to be having the same problem!!! Can you show me whether you are able to display 60 Hz and and the same time make the Bit depth 10-bit?

If I use custom resolution to fix the refresh rate by adding 60.001 the refresh rate will be fixed to show 60 Hz but the colour bit will revert back to 8-bit. This is a problem with Windows 10 only. 8.1 never has this issue.

Seems like I found the solution to this issue using custom resolution utility.

Download Custom Resolution Utility. When you open this program by default this is going to detect 3840x2160 as a 59.996 Hz Refresh Rate. Hence why in Windows setting it was showing as 59 Hz.

To the box in the left side where you see Refresh rate 59.996 Hz. Change that to 60 Hz and click ok. After that click on restart64 in C:\Program Files (x86)\cru-1.4.1 for the change to take effect.

Now when you go to Nvidia control panel and select the 10-bit colour the refresh rate will this time be 60 Hz as opposed to the 59 Hz previously and the 10 bit will not revert back to 8-bit.

Obviously this is more of a DIY solution than a permanent one. If you use Nvidia Customise Resolution this messes up the colour bit to revert back to 8-bit in Windows 10 something that does not happen in 8.1 or 7.
