PC and TV not connecting via HDMI cable

I have connected my Tablet PC to my smart TV with the correct cable but have so far not got them working together. On the TV I have enabled HDMI and selected the right port, but have not found any relevant settings on the PC. Plus the advice I have found online has not helped, not least because settings described as being in the Control Panel or in Settings do not appear to be there.

If the PC has detected your HDMI-TV connection then it will be shown as an additional display in Settings, System, Display.

If there is no additional display shown then your PC has not detected your HDMI-TV connection
    - Unless there is something wrong with the connection itself, I'd first try going to your PC maker then downloading and [re-]installing the latest display driver.
    - I suggest you also check your PC manual & any user forum your PC maker provides to see if there is any useful guidance there.
    - You might also get somebody else to connect their PC to your TV using the same TV settings & HDMI cable to prove that nothing there is at fault.

Thanks for your reply and suggestions. In Settings a second screen is 'not detected'. The driver should be up to date, I have scanned for updates, even though they were all updated by an MS tech about a month ago (to restore inking). Is the Setting 'connect to a wireless display', relevant? It does not work anyway. When HDMI is selected on the TV it reports 'no signal.' 'Projecting to this PC' is not relevant I guess.

In Devices and Printers there is an exclamation (!) against the PC itself, so I tried the Troubleshooters which found errors with the camera which have been repaired, but again not relevant?

I'd still first try going to your PC maker then downloading and [re-]installing the latest display driver. This can counter the problem if it has been caused by a driver that is misbehaving [just trying Update driver does not have this benefit].

I also think you should ask somebody with a laptop to come around and connect to your TV using the same HDMI cable [as far as is possible, I appreciate you might also have an HMDI-Mini or HDMI-MicroHDMI adapter in there somewhere].

If your TV is not connected by Wireless then 'connect to a wireless display' is not relevant.
'Projecting to this PC' is not relevant.

You have no more Device manager errors?
Device manager shows the entry for your display driver?
There's no advice in your manuals / the tablet maker's support site / user forum?

Becuase Devices and Printers has a yellow ! against the PC itself, and the troubleshooter reports problem(s) with P n P devices and camera ERROR 10---are these likely to be related to the HDMI problem? The troubleshooter tried to fix, but after several restarts the result is just the same. No issues are reported in Device Manager, and I have not identified any driver issues. Maybe I should try another driver utility in addition to IOB Booster? The problems identified with P n P devices clearly need to be addressed whether related to HDMI or not, but how do I do this if the relevant troubleshooter cannot fix it?The TV is connected by wireless and sometimes I get Chromecast to work --- I was hoping the HDMI cable would be more reliable.

1 If Device manager has a section called Other devices then there is hardware that Windows does not recognise and cannot install a driver for. Your computer maker's drivers ought to overcome this problem for the hardware that came in the computer.
2 Put all 3rd party driver utilities in the dustbin.
3 Go to your PC maker then download and [re-]install the latest display driver. Then check what remaining problems there are.
4 Whilst in your PC maker's website, see if it provides a tool for checking all your hardware drivers. Given the mixture of symptoms you have reported & your use of a 3rd party utility, there might be several small problems tucked away within your drivers that frustrate your attempts to use the TV. If there is no such tool then you ought to work your way through installing every relevant driver they provide.
5 I believe you should address the Devices and Printers issues before considering the TV issue any further [I clearly misunderstood your last post - I thought you had fixed the Devices and Printers issues]
6 Return to the TV issue when all other hardware & hardware driver issues are resolved.

    Best of luck,

I have not had any response from the computer manufacturer, but all the display devices are Intel(R) and I have used the Assistant on Intel's site to scan my system and it reports 'no problems' with anything, including Intel drivers. I have examined Device Manager fairly thoroughly and have only found error signs for the camera sensors (see snip below) which I presumed are not relevant.

However, the Camera cannot be found so perhaps I should try to deal with that first?

I found the it item below and I cannot tell if it is displaying the error sign or not, as it is unclear to me even when using a magnifier --- it is not the same as in the Camera clip, so what is it? PC and TV not connecting via HDMI cable-image.png

In examining the numerous Intel(R) entries in Device Manager I did find some things which seemed to me to be not as they should be, for example in some cases there are reports to the effect that certain actions had not completed fully and 'further installation' is required. In Settings a second display is still not found but nor can I connect to a second display (ie. TV) wirelessly which seems odd as my wireless network is working OK. Even odder is the fact that in Settings Connect it lists a TV (Samsung) which I do not have and never had, so it is no wonder my PC cannot connect to it! It may be picking up a Samsung Tablet which I do have, but the PC cannot connect to it.

    clayto,

1 I think that Intel thing is just part of their icon. It is the same as mine & blown up huge it looks to me like an HDMI connector.

    2 I have a driver for an OV2680 camera - version 1.0.12.1 dated 07/08/2015
    - I have never tested it. It was incorrectly included in the driver downloads from Chuwi and I have never bothered deleting it even though I managed to piece together the true situation & obtain the correct driver for the camera that was actually fitted in the tablet on receipt.
    - Those *!?*?! idiots failed to provide a driver for what they had fitted yet did provide the driver for a camera that they had not fitted.
    - I believe its full name is Camera Sensor Unicam OV2680 {which I believe might be another part of Intel since they make the driver}.
    - I'll post it if you confirm that you want I have posted it in my next message. There is a method for attaching small files such as these to posts here but I have never bothered with it before so I'll have to find out what to do. Small files are posted using the icon for posting pictures but you select the file you want to post instead of the image file you would otherwise choose.
    - Given the inadequate support you are getting from the OEM, make a system image before you install it.
    - You can get the version number & issue date by double-clicking on the inf file within the cab file you have probably been supplied. You'll see DriverVer in the first block of writing.
    - To install it, you can extract the contents of the cab file then right click on the inf file & select install.

    What an extraordinary coincidence,
    Denis

    OV2680.zip

    OV2680.zip

Oh, it is like posting an image but I select the file instead of an image when I reach the browsing step.

    clayto,

I am keen to continue to provide whatever help I can. When you tell me that the camera driver is resolved, we can consider the following points. I suspect that I will not be of any other use to you other than making a few suggestions about what to put in a new thread once the driver issues & the following points are resolved.

1 "in some cases there are reports to the effect that certain actions had not completed fully and 'further installation' is required" - you will see such entries in Settings, Devices if like me you have a metered connection. I could turn off the metered property to see them complete but I don't really believe that any of these messages mean anything so I have not bothered yet. Is that what you were referring to?

2 What odd indications are you finding in Device manager? Anything in Device manager, Other devices can be regarded as odd.

3 I don't know anything about wireless displays [for ages when people mentioned WiDi in their posts I just thought they had mistyped].

4 "Settings Connect"? Do you mean Settings, Display or are you referring to something else that I do not know about? ['Connect' does ring a vague bell as something I never wanted so uninstalled ages ago]

5 Is there a 10inch Windows tablet maker anywhere that actually provides decent support? Mine is a tablet-with-keyboard {essentially a low performance 10 inch laptop}, a Chuwi Hi10 Pro, that fits in my coat's big poacher's pocket & can cope with everything I want to do when I am outside my house. I removed Android - it had been supplied, like yours, as a combined Android & Windows tablet.
