    144hz and 60hz Stuttering Issues

Hello everyone. So I have a Gigabyte 15 x9 laptop that has a i7-8750H and a RTX 2080, and I have always used 60hz monitors in the past so I have a couple spares. I went to plug in one of them to use as an extra extended monitor to watch stuff while I play games, so I would put stuff in it such as Google Chrome and Discord. The two monitors don't play nicely for some reason and when watching something, video games on my main 144hz laptop panel are stuttery and laggy as hell and it's super annoying, I unplug the monitor and things act normal and fine.I heard that setting the display to GPU scaling would fix this issue, so I tried that and I got this basically (not my video but describes what happens): Problem with monitor scaling with Nvidia gpu - YouTube

Then people in the comments say to unplug the monitor and try it again, but since it's a laptop, half of the nvidia settings go away and I no longer can access those settings and im left with this: https://i.imgur.com/TVgJLQn.png

I've tried setting things to not use hardware acceleration mode, and that kind of works but is an annoying workaround, and many other people on the internet say that there just isn't really a fix for this which I find this very hard to believe. Am I really forced to just buy a 144hz monitor myself?

Have you installed drivers for the monitor?

Hmm, no I haven't, honestly didn't think that was even a thing lol since windows usually is able to auto detect that. In device manager it says "Generic PnP Monitor", it's just a really standard INSIGNIA small tv basically, but I'll see what I can find a report back.

Okay I can't find anything regarding my monitor or its manufacturer for drivers. For a generic monitor like I have it shouldn't need any sort of drivers and I've had this working on many other pcs and laptops before.

I can pretty much guarantee that the issue is the difference in frequency between the 2 panels, it can either do one frame rate or the other, not both, the stutters are one screen running at 60Hz, thus locking the desktop and any full screen applications to 60fps too, which means that your laptop's panel is running at 60fps while being capable of running at 144Hz, which causes eye burning stutters.

Yeah that's definitely the problem, but how do I solve it? Do I seriously just have to buy a 144hz monitor just to use as a second screen?

No. Having two panels at different refresh rates is not the problem as long as you run them at the same Hz with Nvidia Surround. If you want different hertz you need to put it to 120Hz instead of 144 because of intervals, 60/120.

Why don't you try going with 144hzs monitors instead of others because sometimes it happens in some cases and happened with me also when I tried the same with me and when it tried to use a 144hzs monitor with my main display and everything was working properly so try doing the same.
