Monitor Cable Question

I have a dell xps 15 9550 that i connect 2 monitors to. Both monitors are 1920x1200 resolution and 24'. I had to buy 2 cables... one is an hdmi to hdmi cable to connect to one of the monitors. The other cable i bought was a usb-c to displayport to the other monitor and it works good.


I want to now connect my dell xps 15 9550 to an old monitor i have which is called the dell 2007fp

I do not have access to the monitor now but will be planning to use it later temporary only. Now what cable would i need for this based on my dell xps 15 9550? So i read that monitor uses dvi or vga so those are the only 2 options?


So that would mean i could use what cables to connect it?


hdmi to dvi ?
hdmi to vga?


Is there any other cable that would work for this?

Using an HDMI to DVI cable, like the one in your second link, will work fine.

Hi there. Thanks But what other options are there? So basically because its a dell xps 15 9550, it has to be an hdmi or usb c on one end correct?


Also i look through my cables and i have this wire that says hdmi on one end and the other end looks to be either vga or dvi. But here is the strange thing. That cable that says hdmi in it... its not the same size as the hdmi to hdmi cable i currently have. Example i pull the hdmi cable from my laptop off, i compare it to the other cable. The gold part of the hdmi cable... its like half the size of the regular hdmi to hdmi cable i have. When i try to plug that part to my laptop hdmi port, it doesn't fit. So that another cable? Or its an hdmi cable that broke a while back possibly? It does say hdmi on it.

There are two sizes of HDMI. The cable you found is Mini HDMI.

There are at least 3 sizes of HDMI, smaller sizes like Mini, Micro, & some others.

Ah okay that makes sense. I always wondered if i broke that hdmi or something which is why i thought it looked like that.

I got the cable i bought from amazon. The first thing i noticed was when i unplugged my dvi to dvi cable from my desktop computer to my dell monitor... i looked at the pins so to speak... the one i got from amazon looks different. Is that suppose to happen?


Example the dvi to dvi cable i already have... there are like 3x3 pins and there is another 3x3 pins with a bit of space and right next to each other. This works with my desktop monitor fine connected from my desktop computer. This hdmi to dvi cable its 8 pins across and 3 pins vertical? when i tried to plug it into my monitor, it doesn't seem to fit? I cannot even tighten it up with those other things on each side? Does that mean this is not compatible? I cannot tighten it at all. It doesnt even look like it fits. Thoughts?

Okay. But i cannot connect it in. It does not tighten up at all. Does that mean its not compatible somehow?
