Resolution problem after upgrading windows 10 pro 64 bit to 1809

I was running windows 10 pro 64 bit 1709 version on my Dell desktop optiplex 790 corei5 2nd generation computer. On 11-3-2019, from windows update utility I updated windows to 1809 version which completed smoothly. After updating, now the computer is running on low resolution i.e 1600x1200, whereas on previous version it was operating on 1920x1080. On going to display settings when I tried to adjust resolution to 1920x1080, it fails to save it and automatically reverts to 1600x1200, whereas paradoxically a routine message do appear asking me to save the settings or revert, but on clicking save button the previous resolutions take over. A message in red also appears that windows failed to save this setting try some other combination. How can I fix this problem??

Yes, I also uninstalled and reinstalled the graphic card driver but to no avail. Is there any other solution?
