1920x1080 WAS fixed now I do not have it (again)

When my Dell Optiplex 780 updated to 1803, I lost my monitor's native resolution 1920x1080. This was corrected after installing version 1809. However, the very first update after version 1809 (a minor update) removed 1920x1080 yet again! It is stuck on 1600x1200 just like last time! I am unable to watch the movie required for class because it requires 1920x1080!

I have no clue what is going on here with the resolution disappearing and reappearing with each update! Now I have a version 1809 without 1920x1080 despite the fact that it WAS working with 1809!

How can I get this resolution back again? I just cannot wait for the next update because my assignment is due Tuesday morning.

What kind of display and graphics adapter are used by the Optiplex 780?

How exactly are you looking for the available resolution settings?

Intel Q45/Q43 Express Chipset and right clicking my desktop and selecting 'display settings'

I have an identical Optiplex 780 (different machine) running Windows 7 and that is very much capable of running 1920x1080

Could you try scrolling down in Settings>Display and select 'Advanced display settings', then 'Display adapter properties for Display 1'. This should bring up a small window where you can select 'List all Modes', which will show all the available resolution modes for your combination of display adapter and monitor - something like this:

    Attachment 224783

Do you see 1920 by 1280 there?

That is a chipset about 11 years old, it has probably aged out of spec or other MOBO parts including HDD and so forth.

All the hardware will need checking, you can only go so far with doing that. A HDD is easy to replace but a MOBO problem would need a new board.

No, it is not listed there. 1600x1200 is the highest it shows. It showed 1920x1080 before the update

I'm not sure that it would help, but maybe you could find, and install, the "drivers" for your monitor. (the quotes are that the "drivers" are just an .inf file.) What monitor is it?

General suggestion for help forums: the more technical details that you provide, the better the quality of the help.

It may be that the display adapter driver needs attention. If your monitor is connected via onboard Intel Graphics, then Intel's Driver and Support Assistant can insure the proper device driver is installed. (Intel and Microsoft sometimes seem to disagree on what graphics driver a given PC should have...)

    https://www.intel.com/content/www/us...rt/detect.html

It is a small (~15MB) download, then install and launch for scan of all Intel devices to check for latest driver software.

If your monitor is attached via a graphics adapter card separate from the motherboard, you should check with the card's manufacturer for the proper driver.

The driver support assistant does not list any new drivers
