Display driver causing black screen

Dear helpful people,

On the weekend I eagerly put together my new PC. Progressed through the windows 10 installation smoothly, and proceeded to install drivers for all of my hardware and periferals. During the process my screen went black, and I assumed it to be resetting after installing a video driver, as they do when shifting resolutions. So I left it two hours, and when I returned, it was the same. So I pressed the power button to initiate shut down, which went smoothly. Then restarted, which progressed passed POST, motherboard manufacturer's image loading screen, and then into the black void from whence it was moments before. Ok.

Through the last two days I have tested rigorously to discover a cause, and searched fruitlessly for a solution that would work for me.

The issue arrives the moment I install a display driver, regardless of if it is a display driver for my onboard graphics, or my gpu. It happens regardless if I use my motherboard's disk, drivers downloaded from manufactuerer websites, or through the windows update utility. It is an easily repeatable occurance.

My system specifications are as follows.

Windows 10 home edition
MPB Z390 Gaming Pro Carbon Motherboard
Intel i7 9700k
32gb Corsair Vengence ram
Nvidia RTX 2070 Graphics Card
2x WD Black 6tb 3.5" HDs
2x Samsung 970 EVO V-NAND M.2 1TB SSDs
Asus PB287Q 28" Monitor

So far I have tried:

Installing on m.2 SSD
Installing on 3.5" HD
Installing on HDs in RAID
Windows key + P fix
Installing graphics drivers from the internet, CD and Windows update utility
Cable checks,
Alternate Display Ports on both GPU and Motherboard

The system runs stably without installing a display driver. I am posting this message from chrome installed on it. But obviously, to use as a gaming rig, no display driver is kind of a killer.

Thank you for your time and advice in advance, I am struggling to understand what I can do.

Secure boot is disabled. I have downlaoded DDU and will try using it, then booting in safemode without networking to install the driver.

I created a restore point, downloaded DDU and the latest Nvidia driver, disconnected my ethernet cable and booted into safe mode. Once there, I used DDU to scrub for nvidia drivers and restart. Then I rebooted into safe mode and scrubbed for intel drivers and rebooted, then I went back into safemode and installed the nvidia driver. It all went well, driver install complete, gave me the restart to complete installation button.

Restarted, loaded back into a black screen after POST and the MSI loading screen.

So I system restored and am back to report.

I have another graphics card I may put in tomorrow to test, *just in case* my 2070 is DOA.

Looks like my 2070 arrived faulty. Installing my gtx 980Ti went smoothly and drivers installed without issue. I had to completely reinstall windows due to a random critical error that restore would not fix. If I have any more issues I will report in but for now, that seems to be the cause.

I have this issue now, or somewhat the same issue. I tested my gpu in my friends computer, and it worked fine in his.
Did you ever figure out what the problem was?

Hello! Did you found amy fix?! Because right now im pretty much in the same boat. Two days ago I started up Rainbow Six Siege and when I loaded into the gamey screen started glotching out, it split in two but i was able to use it and see whats going on. So I hit the reset button restarted the game happened again. (I’ve been playing it over a week without any problems, smooth 60+ fps same goes to Overwatch and Gta V) so I reset again. Then I remembered that at every startup the game gave me a heads up that my graphic driver isnt compatible so I decided to use my lil friend driver booster which helped me in the past 3 years with every pc. When it was done it restarted my pc and well the story is the same. I can see the POST message a big ASUS logo but after that black screen. Sofar I reinstalled windows 2 times and whats wierd that it happens whentry to update my windows too (guess it downloads some sort of deiver too) I’m really worried because I just got a gtx 970 from a friend and I’m affraid it wont work. The issue listed above is on my AMD radeon hd 6850 I haven’t tested with the gtx 970 because Im waiting for my new powersupply

Hi,Vortex, if you tried so many ways and it still didn't work, how about try some tools to find the exact problem, you know, like some tools that can scan the whole computer and search where the problem is for you?
