144Hz no longer an available option in Windows settings

I hope this is the correct place to post, I apologize if not.

I have a 144Hz 1080p monitor, GTX 1080Ti, connected with a HDMI 2.0 cable. When I first set up this system a little over a year ago, I was able to select 144Hz in Windows settings. Between now and then I hooked up a kvm switch - not surprisingly I lost the capability to output at 144Hz. But now I've removed the switch from my set up and I can't return back to 144Hz. Highest Windows setting allows is 60Hz. All hardware is exactly the same before and after the kvm switch.

The only thing I can think of that may be important is before the physical kvm switch, I used Microsoft's Mouse Without Borders for a short time, which did some weird things like enable secure log in (which required I change a registry key to disable). I don't know if that might be related.

Is there something in Windows that could be preventing this or do I have a bad cable or other hardware problem? I don't have another cable to test out at this time but I'd like to try to eliminate other possibilities before I order a new one.

Try running MonitorInfoView - View Monitor Information (EDID) and see if the max vertical frequency is correct.

If not, then you can try deleting the entry for your monitor in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\DISPLAY\.

60hz is standard with KVM's, since they are meant for the bare minimum, same as Remote Management. If you wish to split HDMI or switch them, use a HDMI Splitter/switcher.

Right. But I removed the kvm switch.

It shows the vertical frequency range to be 56-76 Hz. Can you clarify what you mean by delete the entry?

You would use DDU to remove the drivers and device, to have Windows reinstall. Also the monitor/display device can lock at a min-max freq, which you cannot physically change.

    Run REGEDIT and do:

    1. In MonitorInfoView look at the Registry Key column for your monitor. Note the left-most portion of the key (e.g. DELA07B).

    2. In Regedit paste "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\DISPLAY" into the address bar and hit ENTER.

    3. Right-click on the entry in the left panel corresponding to the Registry Key for your monitor you found in #1 (e.g. DELA07B) and hit Export. Save the file somewhere - you can use this to restore the entry in case something goes wrong.

    4. Right-click the entry and click Delete. Unplug and re-plug in the monitor.

You can just delete the Device Parameters key. I don't believe the other keys in there really matter. I just tried this and the key was regenerated when I plugged in the monitor again.
