That means the monitor itself is not reporting the correct EDID information or someone is overriding it.

Are you using the Generic PnP Monitor driver (see DeviceDesc)? Is there an "EDID_Override" key under Device Parameters?

Yes I am using the generic driver. I see an EDID key but not EDID override.

I found an old dual DVI and plugged it in and voila 144Hz.

I'm guessing either I'm mistaken about my original set up and the monitor just doesn't support 144Hz over HDMI itself, or the cable is bad?

Try installing Acer's monitor Inf file ( Driver but not really a driver), so Windows knows what it can use....

Installed it. Still limited to 60Hz. MonitorInfoView is reporting the same EDID version before and after regardless.

Should I bother trying a new HDMI cable? I don't mind using the DVI, this monitor doesn't have built in speakers or anything anyway.

With my BenQ monitors I don't get all the options until I install their .inf File , thought it may help...I assume the monitor is using it?

I've never had any issues with DVI over the years , apparently HDMI will do 144hz at least I think that monitor is 144hz native and several websites confirm HDMI should work too with the right cable version.

Which Cable Do I Need For 144Hz? [Everything You Need To Know]

If you have a nvidia card you can also create a custom resolution for example I push my BenQ's from 60hz to 75hz, not sure if ATI has a similar option or not?

This maybe related to the graphics Card not the monitor ...is it capable of doing 144hz at FHD res via HDMI ? , something to check for sure.... as I can't help further, as you haven't filled in your computer specs...

I didn't install the inf until you suggested it. I don't see any extra options though. This monitor was first manufactured back in 2012 or 13 I think so I think the generic driver is probably the same as the latest official driver.

HDMI is supposed to be good for 144Hz @1080p for 1.4+. 1.2 and down can't do 144Hz (max at 75Hz I think)

I did create a custom resolution earlier through nvidia control panel and was able to post at 76Hz max. Anything over and my monitor displayed a message saying something about an unsupported input.

I have a MSI GTX 1080 Ti graphics card. I haven't actually checked but I ASSUME there shouldn't be a native issue with the card. I'm really just getting the feeling it's the monitor limited at the HDMI port. I was pretty confident I had it running at 144 via HDMI before but I've slept since then and could be mistaken.

I really appreciate all of you taking the time to troubleshoot this for me!

(I don't know where to fill in my computer specs but in case it matters for this machine: Ryzen 1700x, 1080Ti, ASRock Taichi mobo, 2x8GB samsung die CL14 ram @3200)

Most newer monitors can't run 144 Hz over HDMI, even though some of the HDMI specs say it can. It normally takes DP and some can do it over a quality DVI cable. Mine requires a DP cable.

At the bottom left of your last post, click the "My Computer" message. There will be a link to update computer specs. Use that link but be sure to scroll down to the bottom of the page and click save. You can look at my computer specs and see it works.

You may need to check the fine print on both the Monitor and Graphics card spec sheets to see if 144hz is supported by both

DP can normally do it, and DVI-D with dual link AFAIK, but I thought most HDMI was limited to 60hz as to be compatible with most Tv's , though I haven't bought a new monitor or TV in 3 years so haven't kept up with the latest specs.

If DVI-D is working then I guess it is really moot, unless you need more outputs for more monitors.

His 1080 TI will do 144Hz and more. It will be a case of the monitor requirements or the cable, I'm sure.

It's not that it can't do 144hz, as I am sure the DP and DVI-D can, it's whether the HDMI ports on the Card can or do output to HDMI at 144hz , many laptops also have this limitation as an example.... while many computer enthusiasts and gamers have 120 or 144hz monitors that rating is not the normal/defacto standard and most manufacturers I think would assume that HDMI is mainly used to connect to large screen tv's etc for gaming while DP and DVI would be used for monitors.

I could be wrong of course :) was just trying to make suggestions as to why HDMI is not working in this case.

And looking at the Monitor more.....

......Page 12 of the monitor manual says it will only do 60hz on the 3D timing table , ie 1080i , so if Windows "thinks" it connected to a TV instead of a monitor that could be the issue

at 1080 the monitor will only do 60 or 144hz and it says modes with a * need a DVI cable except the * is missing from the Table itself.

hmmmm not sure we have the right monitor as the inf file doesn't say it can do 144hz at all ??? only 120hz and it maxes at 76hz on HDMI which would explain the attempt at Custom Res. creation being limited to 76hz. (It maybe a 120hz panel which can use OverDrive to push it to 144hz though?)
