Hardware Error on recent Nvidia Graphics driver

On December 6, I installed what was then the latest Nvidia Driver for my production PC's GTX 1070. For six days after that, I have experienced one or more Windows Hardware Errors as detailed in this screencap from Reliability Monitor:

Yesterday, Nvidia came out with a new driver version 417.35. I'm installing it now, in hopes it's more stable than the preceding version. I ended up rolling back to version 25.21.14.1681 (aka 416.81 in Nvidia lingo) which stopped those hardware errors cold. I'll follow up if they resume after the 417.35 install.

    Sigh.

NVIDIA rolled out a lot of updates on the 12th to go with the Shield updates. The problems between Microsoft and NVIDIA makes you wonder if it has to do with the Gaming platform competition that NVIDIA is giving Microsoft now and Microsoft is playing their games of breaking the system. Bad since NVIDIA is the number one GPU used on Windows platforms.

BCCode 117 is usually a video TDR. If you noticed this after updating the drivers then that would be a good lead to take. By the way do not roll back modern Nvidia drivers using the rollback feature in the device manager. It doesn't uninstall them properly and can cause issues later on. Use DDU instead to clear it out completely. And don't update them if you don't need to, this goes for most drivers too.

You should stay away from the r416 branch if you have issues, they're broken for a lot of users. Use r411 instead, e.g 411.70, until a new branch is out over the new year. The r416 is a side branch of drivers created specifically to support DXR and it's been clearly rushed to meet two deadlines. They have also caused BSOD on RTX 20-series cards previously, HEAP corruptions and bad pool calls in several applications. It's also reported they create all sorts of oddities, with something basic as monitor sleep through Windows being confirmed broken over DP on certain panels and chips. And this is just a small fraction. I dunno if any of the problems with them is in direct correlation with your issue, but seeing how bad they can act for some users it's a good lead.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm not seeing any new Hardware errors since I installed the 12/12 driver. But if I do, I'll use DDU and roll back to a 411 branch release.
Thanks again. I can always count on the Forum members to provide me with much-appreciated info and insight.
    Best wishes,
