How to get windows 10 to pick up a new monitor

I've got an hdmi switch with my PC as the input and my TV and my monitor as the output. My TV is 4k so it's resolution always seems to be picked up when switching betwenn my monitor and my TV when the PC is on, but often it is defaulting to 30Hz, so when I switch back to my monitor it just reads out of range as it only displays at 60Hz it seems.

My monitor's aspect ratio is also 21:9 rather than 16:9, and when switching from the TV to the monitor it won't display in 2560x1080 as it still displays in 16:9

I'm wondering if there is a way to possibly uninstall and re-install the drivers using powershell or a cmd script, as I can uninstall the driver just fine but not re-install with the monitor not displaying(haven't tried it just guessing there). This way it picks up it's a different display and changes the resolution poperly. Althought if anyone has any better ideas I'm open to it!

First off, you need to state in your System Spec's, what hardware that computer is using and the manufacturer and model of the displays. https://www.tenforums.com/profile.php?do=extra Also state in a post what is the manf. and model of the two displays, what GPU built in or as a card that you are using.

60hz should be default, not 30hz. Unless you have 4k content going to that display device, it will only display what Windows defaults the display adapter at in display properties. 16:9 is the standard for all displays.

Just because your 4k display is capable of doing 21:9, does not mean that windows is automatically going to display that way. If you want to be able to have a list of choices for what to display on what monitor, you will have to either use extra software or manually change it yourself.

I suggest testing each monitor individually first so you can find out if they work correctly with your computer without that HDMI switch in the middle.

If both monitors are OK separately then check the specs of the switch. You need a switch that was designed for a single input and double output rather than the other way round.

If everything has checked out then I suggest hooking it all up again but not changing between monitors directly yet.
1 Check what state the switch is in [which output it is set to]
2 Connect that monitor directly to the computer and check it works OK.
3 Set Windows to PC display only.
4 Hook up the switch & the monitors.
5 [For one monitor only] Set Windows to External display, Duplicate display & Extended desktop and note the results.
6 Set Windows to PC display only.
7 Switch the HDMI switch over to the other monitor.
8 [For the other monitor only] Set Windows to External display, Duplicate display & Extended desktop and note the results.
9 If the results are satisfactory you can test out switching whilst still set to External display, Duplicate display or Extended desktop but you might find that you always have to set Windows to PC display only before changing the switch over.
