My Lenovo Ideapad 110 laptop monitor is dead. I am using an HDMI to DVI cable to use a 65" TV as my screen. All content along the edges is lost. It is off the edge of the TV screen. I don't have the original remote for the TV. What can I do to get the entire content of my laptop screen to show on the TV? I don't know what tags would be appropriate for this question.
OK, I tried to do that. Here is what happened.
I right clicked the desktop and chose Display settings. The Resolution box was grayed out. Maybe because under Multiple Displays it is set to Show Only on 2. I clicked Advanced Display Settings. I see that my Desktop resolution is 1920 x 1080. I clicked on Display Adapter Properties for Display 2. See Figure 1 in my uploaded Word file.

I would try see what settings are available on TV. Saw you lost remote, should be able to access most through buttons on TV.
Is the windows desktop okay on the TV and then any app is off center or it doesn't matter, windows and apps are off center.
Is windows recognizing the correct make model of TV?
I assume the laptop is right. All I know is it is a Toshiba. Nothing is off center. The desktop and all apps just are larger than the TV screen size so all edges are off screen. I used the buttons on the TV to get to picture size, but it is grayed out. I found this at How to Adjust a Toshiba Screen Width | Chron.com
- If a screen width within the Pic Size or Picture component is grayed out, the width is not available for the type of video, broadcast, cable/satellite or presentation you are displaying. Not all screen widths are available for all programming.
It's probably Overscan and/or wrong Resolution/Refresh rate.
You need to set your TV input to PC input. You may or may not have any settings for overscan.
I presume this TV is old with no HDMI input. The Laptop maybe not getting the EDID from the TV. At least it has identified it as a Toshiba TV.
You will have to look up the TV specs as regards supported video modes, native resolution etc.
It is showing some rather low resolution modes and interlaced 30 Hz which is not a good start.
Manually match up the 2nd monitor (TV) output to those Video modes supported by the TV in PC mode.
The article you refer to is for use as a TV it is not the same for a PC input.
Yes, when I go into Display settings the display box 2 is twice the size of 1 indicating display 2 is being used, I assume. I can't even change that. It shows a resolution drop down box, but it is locked at 1920 x 1080 (Recommended).
The TV has no PC Input. I have to use it's DVI input by using a HDMI to DVI cable.
Try to change percentage in "scale and layout" in display settings. It helped me and my working rig. I have a 13-inch laptop and 24-inch monitor. I made a laptop screen as main display and set up scaling to 150%. And the additional display has scalling at 100%. Both are Full HD.
I will look into that. I won't get to try it until Friday.
