Screen resolution fix

Hello to everyone,

I have the following problem,

I have two monitors right now, one connected hdmi to hdmi with a gtx1070 that works on 1440p perfectly.

The other one (2nd monitor) a samsung syncmaster B2240 that is supposed to be able of reaching a 1080p resolution can't get a higher resolution than 1680x1050. I have this one connected to the motherboard with a hdmi to DVI cable (from motherboard to monitor) Because I want to use the graphics of the processor.

I run windows 10 pro with a i7-6700K

I have tried reinstalling the intel grahpics 530 drivers to see if this fix it, and nothing seems to fix it. Someone with the same problem or with any idea of how to fix it?

Can you try a straight DVI to DVI cable ( or even a VGA cable) ?

does the 2nd monitor work at full resolution when its the only monitor connected -- sometimes multi-monitor setups only give max resolution on 1 monitor and lower on secondary monitors -- depends on the spec of the graphics system. You might also have limitations on using built in mobo graphics and a separate graphics card concurrently -- a lot of setups usually require built in graphics to be disabled when using a separate graphics card.

Also do try using DVI cable directly although DVI-->HDMI should in theory work perfrctly.

I tried with only this monitor plugged into the computer and can't go up to 1080p...

My graphic specs as said is gtx1070 for the main monitor 1440p (hdmi - hdmi) and the second monitor Samsung SyncMaster B2240 connected to the moderboard (hdmi-dvi) with a i7-6700K that should be good enough right?

The idea is that is a mining pc so I want to use the integrated graphics in order to be able to use the computer while mining, if not i have to stop the 1070 mining and then lose money while using the computer. I will try connecting the 2nd monitor to the 1070 also and will see if that works

CPU spec won't effect the graphics settings of the built in graphics -- check the spec of the mobo graphics -- although on your type of computer I'm surprized that the mobo won't do 1080p because that's basically a minimal bog standard these days unless you are still using a VGA connector (which you aren't).

Now look at the monitor spec itself -- it might have a max resolution lower than 1080p - if it's newish then that would also be surprising.

Try on the HARDWARE settings on the monitor (i.e not within Windows but from the monitor controls itself --usually done on handset if you have one) see if there's resolution settings - sometimes you might have to change the frequency as well. Read the manual or google for info on that monitor.

I'm also not sure of the spec for DVI-->HDMI video output either - that could potentially be a problem.

I finally fixed it changing some settings on the BIOS and installing drivers of the monitor itself.

Double check the actual monitor model number. From looking at the specs in the manual found here,

there are 4 variations of the B2240, with 2 of them being 1920x1080 and 2 of them being 1680x1050.
