I hope I won't have to uninstall GFE, but what is the best way to turn it off or disable it? I don't play high-end games like Call Of Duty, Assassins Creed, etc., I don't need any big screen mode, theater mode, FPS count, chat or an HUD. I try to keep up with the latest nVidea drivers through, of all things, the GeForce Experience fob in my taskbar. So I feel like the only part of my vid card I'm really updating is (tadaa) GFE.

I use this procedure for debloating nVidia drivers before installing them.
1. Download current nVidia drivers for your graphics card.
2. NVSlimmer allows you to customize and remove bloat from nVidia driver package.
3. Uninstall current driver with DDU.
4. Install debloated repackaged driver you made with NVSlimmer.

If you want to keep it but have it deactivated, that's not really an option. Gfe will always be "active" in some way or form when it's installed. It shouldn't be an issue though, as the only on-screen intrusion it ever does is to remind you of the hotkey (Alt+Z) of using the overlay when you launch games. FPS counters and recording should be disabled by default. If not you can hit that hotkey and disable it from there.
Simply uninstall it, you don't need it for anything you can manually update drivers as you want or need. Simple log on to NVIDIA
On Installing any new or old Nvidia driver select custom install, then Clean Install, then unchecked Ge Force Experience, Lf you're not doing anything 3d uncheck the 3d stuff also, again if you're not using 3D for anything there is no reason to have it installed.
Trust me you won't miss either

Geforce Experience is not required, you can simply uninstall it. As you only seem to use the update facility.
Basically two things you can do.
1) Uninstall.
2) Configure what you don't want OFF if at all possible. There will still be something left running even if you just use it for drivers.
You don't need it for "latest drivers". You don't need latest drivers either, once a year is enough, which is easy enough to do manually.
Fanatical gamers with the latest games may need to update drivers more often, but the vast majority don't because it won't make any difference to older stuff.

Yeah I'd make a system image before using DDU :)
It could and has done bad things to systems
Just getting into safe mode... to uninstall and reinstall before 10 installs a crappy 388. version driver sucks
So yeah just use all apps and uninstall GE and do the nvidia clean install method.
