Is that a build for insiders?

No need to even join Insider, as long as you are on Build 17763, just install the cab file from download link here -

I'm finding more weirdness with the brightness issue.

Sometimes it resets the display tile in the notification area to 50% however the subjective screen brightness still seems to be at the 36% I had it set.

Other times I return to the PC and find the brightness very dim. Brightness reports as 36% but its not. Operating the brightness slider under settings will not raise the brightness correctly i.e. on full brilliance and the screen is obviously way below that setting. I would estimate 50%.

The only way to get out of this is to restart.

I have the display set to turn off after 10 minutes and thought I would see what happens if I increased that to 1 hour. The result of that was that even after almost 90 minutes inactivity the screen did not turn off.

So this issue is still very much alive and well in many forms and also seems random in the particular way it presents.

It seems to be fixed in build 17763.165
supposed to be fixed with at least the KB4469342 update from early Dec. 2018 but seems to be un-fixed in recent 1809 updates

I'm still getting the brightness 50% every reboot problem on 1809, even with the KB4551853 update from May 2020. pretty disappointing

edit 5/22 - I found the problem - it seems this "BrightnessReset" task is causing the brightness level to reset to 50% every time the windows desktop loads, even on 1809 (seems to happen when I manually upgraded from Win10 v1703 to v1809 using the ISO method). I deleted this task and rebooted the laptop and it now remembers the brightness level

I probably should have done a clean install of 1809 over 1703 instead of an in-place upgrade in which doing a clean 1809 install would definitely delete the "BrightnessReset" task
