I don't have a M.2 SSD. it's PCIe X4 in my PCIe X16 slot. I think I have it worded correctly. I think If I can get a adaptor from X16 to 2-X8. If that's possible, I might be able to work with it.

Basically it's also just an M.2 SSD on x4 Pcie adapter..
You can easily swap to x1 adapter.
This is how an M.2 SSD looks like:

that side of the card is covered, I guess I can take that cover off?
ooo wow! I didn't' know. I have to go to work, I'll work on it later.. you are the MAN!
I missed that. My Intel 750 is not, as far as I know, an m.2 drive hidden in an adapter.
One potential down side: the PLEXTOR PX-256M8PeY is a PCI-E X4 device. Putting it in an X1 adapter will limit its performance. That may be a worthwhile trade-off.
There are respectable half-height cards out there, if you can free the X16 slot. At Newegg, I see nVidia 1030 and 1050 cards. I think that the 1050s are more powerful cards, but they need more from the PSU. (30W for the 1030, 75W for the 1050.) The 1030 supports HDMI 2.0b, which means that it'll do 4k through that port.
I still think that the OP is flogging an old horse, if not a dead one.
well 30 watt is still ok for the 1030. the 75 watt is too much. would I be better of if I get a m.2 adapter to a sata? would I get better performance if switched to a 850EVO 250GB sata SSD? I'm learning a ton here.
