    Monitor dims at 6 AM

Every morning my monitor brightness level will go all the way to the dimmest level at precisely 6am. How can I stop this? This is a new computer, so not sure if it is a Windows function, an Intel function, or an HP function causing it. I have looked in the power management and tried suggestions I have seen on line from other users. This is a desktop and not a laptop, so it is always plugged in.

Have a look in this tutorial:

And turn on or off or adjust the Night Light Settings.

You've tried Windows settings with no change, I would next check the monitor settings and see if there's anything related to screen brightness. Would you happen to have a light sensor in the screen mount camera?

Sorry folks and thanks for the replies. I had stopped worrying about this for several days and for some reason after six months of this, it just has not done it again. Don't know if an update fixed it or what. I guess I'll be scratching that bald spot on my head if it starts doing it again.

It has started again. I have noticed that something runs in the background and when it is done it resets my brightness level all the way to the dimmest point. Any suggestions?

You show a Desktop in your My Computer data. I've seen issues similar to yours but only on Notebooks/Laptops where the power/AC adapter was not maintaining a good connection to the port in the edge of the case and causing a change from AC charging to running only on the battery which normally dims the display to save battery, give more use time.

Have a look in task scheduler to see if any events are scheduled at 06:00. Also have a look at event viewer to see if any events are being reported at 06:00.

    Monitor dims at 6:00 AM

I agree about scheduled events and have looked at that. Unfortunately, there are so many of them and I have no idea what I am looking for. Most of the time if I start my desktop after 6, it does not dim although one time it did it around 9am. It is guaranteed though if I start before 6am, as soon as my clock strikes 6 the monitor will dim. Although it is easy to go to settings and reset the brightness, it is still a real pain and frustrating. HP says I should return the system. This is stupid as it is not a defect, it is an event. Any help on how to narrow this down?

Did you mean you had a look at scheduled events ? If not, have a look at "Event Viewer" for the time the screen dims (in case you need to find Event viewer: Right click Start icon, and choose Event Viewer).

Also to see what Scheduled tasks completed at the time in question, it would be easier if you can look it up using TaskSchedulerView by nirsoft ( it is a portable utility, so just extract the zipped contents to a folder of your choosing and run TaskSchedulerView.exe (as Administrator) ).

    https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/task_scheduler_view.html

You can also try LastActivityView by nirsoft (again extract and run ).

If, as you said you have noticed that something runs in the background and when it is done it resets your brightness level all the way to the dimmest point, then the above MIGHT help you find what it is that is being run just before the time in question.

    Good luck.
