    GT710 screen resolution

I installed a Gainward 3576 (GT710) card today and allowed the accompanying CD to do its stuff. The main reason for installing the card was to get away from the onboard graphics chipset (Intel G33/G31) and to gain an HDMi port.
I am not interested in games.
On my analogue graphics driver, I was using 1920x1080 screen resolution with 100% scaling. However, with the HDMi connection, I now find that those settings (even though they are marked as recommended) produce a tiny image with text so small that it's difficult to read. The desktop icons are also tiny and are squeezed up to the top left of the screen. To get approximately the same image as I had previously, I have to apply 150% scaling. This is acceptable but I just wondered why this difference exists. Can anyone educate me on this issue?

I'm guessing it has to do with the driver. Since you are using a driver that came from the CD it means that the driver is outdated. Download the latest driver from nvidia's website.

Thanks forthe suggestion but I had already done that and it made no difference. Since then, I also discovered that the NVIDIA driver is disabled in Safe Mode so I get a black screen. Maybe that's a topic for another thread.

Have you turned off the onboard GPU in the BIOS?

In Safe mode a basic driver for standard video modes is used obviously to make sure you get a display of some kind.
Any driver for your GT 710 or the integrated graphics would support those, as would any generic driver.

A VGA screen of the same resolution should be the same if using HDMI.
I have never had or seen any such issue in going from VGA to HDMI.

What is the native screen resolution, and what is the screen size.

The BIOS/UEFI certainly needs looking in to, depends on the MOBO what you may find.
The usual default is to a plugged in PCI-E Graphics Card.

That you get a black screen probably just means plugging in to the VGA iGPU connection, rather than the GT 710 Card. Presumably the default is the Integrated.

Hi Plankton. Yes, that's what the card install instructions told me to do. I also removed the VGA cable. I'm a novice in this field so not sure what to do. I did conclude that the HDMi driver is probably switched off in Safe Mode so I guess I'll have to reactivate the onboard chipset and reconnect the VGA cable if I need to use Safe Mode.

Hi Helmut. Thanks for the clarification. The monitor is an LG 22MP57; a 22 inch screen with native resolution of 1920x1080. The NVIDIA install process removes the driver for the onboard graphics.

Well, this is weird (to my mind). All I did was to connect the VGA cable from the monitor to the graphics card, in parallel with the HDMi cable. Suddenly, the HDMi port outputs an image in Safe Mode. If I switch the monitor to VGA, it displays the windows destop without any icons; switch back to HDMi and I have the normal Safe Mode screen.

Why are you using a VGA cable? VGA doesn't support 1080P. You need to use either a DVI or HDMI cable.

Post a screenshot of your device manager with your display adapters expanded.

Before I installed the GT710 card, I was using a VGA cable from the motherboard to the monitor and was using 1920x1080i resolution. However, the onboard graphics have become unstable so I decided to install a basic card. I disabled the onboard graphics, removed the VGA cable and changed to an HDMi cable from the card to the monitor. In order to investigate some performance issues, I tried to go into Safe Mode but found there was only a black screen. As described above, I only used the VGA cable again in order to get an image in Safe Mode. The monitor is capable of switching between VGA, DVI and HDMi. I have not yet tried a DVI cable.GT710 screen resolution-device-manager1.pngHere is the requested Device Manager photo.
