Updated Graphics Driver but Lost Intel Graphics Settings Control Panel

Hi. I checked for Graphic Driver updates today using Device Manager and it downloaded and installed an update. However after the update I noticed that the Intel Graphics Settings was missing from both the desktop right click menu and the Control Panel itself. I did a System Restore and that fixed the issue (and rolled back the driver). I really don't need the Intel Graphics Settings but I like things that are supposed to be there to be there (I'm kind of obsessive that way). I haven't tried finding and downloading the Graphics Driver software from the Internet to see if that will work without causing my issue. Note that I have no problem(s) with the current Display Driver. I just try keeping things up to date. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks.

My guess would be that your current driver is from Intel and includes the extra graphics settings, and the updated version is from MS, and does not. My suggestion would be to disable Win10 from updating drivers. I have done that on ALL my Win10 PCs and have stopped having driver problems ever since. I also do check the hardware vendor sites regularly for driver updates.

I'm almost positive that the new driver installed from Device Manager was Intel and not MS. I recall now that I had the same kind of issue on my last computer which was Windows 7 . Thanks for your input.

My guess would be the limitation of your OEM HP PC. These are designed to install/use a specific set of driver/software packages and are only meant to be updated through the OEM support web site. That said, I would roll back your driver.

As mentioned in my thread I did a System Restore which rolled back the Driver. Also after I did the Update I checked the new Driver version and I'm almost positive that it was an Intel Driver. I just downloaded the Intel Driver and Support Assistant program. Sometime soon I'll try the Graphic Driver update given by that program. My Windows 7 computer used a Catalyst Control Center which is similar to the Intel Graphics Settings on this computer. The Driver downloads for my Windows 7 computer included the Catalyst Control Center. If I remember correctly if I Updated the Driver (AMD) on that computer from the Device Manager I would lose the Catalyst Control Center. With the Intel Driver and Support program for my current computer it doesn't say if the Graphic Settings software is included or not. I guess I'll find out when I decide to give it a try.

You have an HP OEM PC....the only way to update it is through HP....Not the device manager. Just because a newer driver is out there doesn't mean you should update. The reason for this is; with OEM's, they only test/support a specific set of driver/software packages that are known to work with the OEM mobo. You need to download your driver from HP and HP only.

Point in case: My systems audio driver. If I download the audio driver from my mobo website I get the driver and software package.If I go to Realtek and download the latest audio driver I lose my software package. It's been that way since I've had this mobo.

Thanks! I researched and found that out just before I read your reply. Problem is basically solved. The HP update for my Graphics Driver is the same version I have installed but instead it's Rev. A. Therefore I'll leave well enough alone.Thanks again!
