Nvidia driver problem with 940 MX on Windows 10 x64

I believe as stated in my original post, I have done that process (using DDU). More like a few times. Yep, the issue remains.

I have tried to reproduce the issue in a more specific manner. So, it seems that if I restart / shut down my laptop on the same day, the issue doesn't appear. (so my other driver version apat from 359.23 still works properly) The issue appears when I shut down my system, then turn it back on the next day. So, is there any windows feature that gets refreshed every day ? I don't have software like DeepFreeze, in case you are wondering.

Sadly, no. Same as before, the status still says "working properly" even when the windows cant access my Nvidia GPU.

The nvidia control panel then couldn't be accessed. The message "Nvidia display setings are not available. You are not currently using a display attached to an nvidia GPU" appeared.

Is this still the issue then with the version you have installed?
I recommend trying a clean boot and see if the problem continues or not

It's an Optimus Laptop, install the Nvidia driver you get from ASUS, that is it. You wait until Windows updates the driver in due course.
If you mess around by using 3rd party uninstallers and trying to update with drivers from Nvidia then it may well not work properly.

I seem to get them updated about every 6 months to 12 months, in one of those Win 10 version updates.

It does not matter what your friends say who probably have a Desktop machine. Optimus Laptops don't have the same hardware.

The message only appeared when I used any other version than the OEM/certified 359.23, after I shutdown my laptop, and turn it back on the NEXT day.

I have never tried clean boot before. A new adventure... :)

After the clean boot, as I have guessed, the problem with my current 390.77 version doesn't arise (because if any restart/shutdown happens on the same day, as I stated earlier, this nvidia issue won't appear)

So, to see its effectiveness, I need to test it tonight, and turn my system back on the next day.
If the problem disappears, then you are a saint, man ....

You can restart it now just don’t take it out of the clean boot mode. Then if it works we will start narrowing it down hopefully to a driver, service etc. I am off for the night.

Now that's a brand new insight for me ...
So, I am stuck with the certified 359.23 version ????
I have had this laptop for around 8 months. And the last time I tried WIndows Update for my Nvidia, it chose the 359.23.

I guess the ONLY workaround that I can try with the newer version is "NEVER RESTART/SHUTDOWN"
I read somewhere that hybernate is pretty much a shutdown. Hopefully nothing bad will come to my system.

Okay, great. Which version are you on now. If not the newest you may want to try updating and see if it is the same in clean boot state and then I will provide troubleshooting steps tom. morn.

Don't worry about it, chill out. The Nvidia drivers on mine are 376.54 (approx dated Dec 2016). I can see from the Events Tab that those were installed in the 1709 Win 10 version update in Oct 2017.
Very dull it is, no effort on my part for 4 years with Nvidia drivers and it all works perfectly and that includes a few games.
