I've just tried the latest 18.2.2 Adrenalin drivers and the bug is still not fixed. What's more, there's no mention of it in the release notes under 'known issues'.

The advice to kill the AMDDVR process as a workaround is not a practical solution for me as it's so easy to forget. Having my Radeon GPU run 10 degrees higher than usual (at idle) is not an acceptable state of affairs either. Until AMD fix this bug I feel I have no choice but to stick with the old 17.11.4 Crimson drivers.

I appreciate that bugs like this may not always be easy to fix but considering its potential impact on GPU power consumption and temperature, I'm very disappointed that it's taking this long. Remember, the first Adrenalin drivers were released in December 2017.

At the risk of repeating myself, I'm sorry to report that the newly released 18.2.3 Adrenalin driver still does not address this issue. As before, my Radeon RX 480 will still stick at 100% GPU activity after watching any full screen video on YouTube via Firefox...

Not only will the card generate more heat and consume more power but the cooling fans are also forced to run constantly, thus causing additional wear and tear to the card (not to mention additional noise). Normally my RX 480 will idle with the fans not running at all - one of the reasons I bought the card in the first place since I use the PC for music making as well as all the other usual stuff.

AMD may well be hard at work fixing this serious issue but it would be helpful and encouraging if they would at least provide some kind of acknowledgement in the driver release notes.

Back to 17.11.4 I go once again.

Just for the sake of comparison, here's the difference when running the 17.11.4 drivers which do not suffer from the aforementioned bug...

As you can see, the card idles as it should with temperatures significantly lower and the fans at 0%.

Just curious here have you noticed on occasion with the latest drivers that your taskbar becomes unclickable for a few seconds every few days?

I've never kept the Adrenalin drivers installed for more than a few minutes because of the issues already discussed in this thread, so I can't say I've encountered any taskbar problems. Sorry I can't help further but I don't intend using the Adrenalin drivers until AMD fix the bug that's affecting me!

For anyone following this thread to save themselves the hassle of trying each new driver release themselves, I am sorry to report that Adrenalin 18.3.1 still does not fix this long-standing issue. Again, no mention of it in the release notes even though it's a widely reported issue.

Another day, another driver release: Adrenalin 18.3.2 offers no fix and still no acknowledgement of the bug in the release notes. The wait continues.

No change with Adrenalin 18.3.3 (dated 18 March).

If this bug is so hard to fix, perhaps AMD could consider a custom install option that doesn't include the problematic AMDDVR component at all. I realise that this would prevent Relive and the Game Overlay from working but at least the driver could be safely used by everyone still dealing with the 100% GPU usage bug.

Thanks for keeping at it, Wiggly1UK2000. I read each new thrilling installment with initial anticipation followed by an immediate letdown. Please: keep up the good work, though!
    Thanks again,

I plan to keep this thread updated for as long as necessary. It's good to know that it's of some benefit to others too so thanks very much for your feedback.
