Old problem Back After Using MS Media Creation Tool ? And, re a BIOS S

    Hello,

Have a DELL xps 8900, 2 years old.
Have the problem of screen going blank after 5 to 10 minutes.

Did the MS Media Creation tool, and everything seemed to then work.
Booted up fine, worked, just great.

But again, after about 5 minutes or so, the old problem: blank screen, won't boot normally, etc...
    Any thoughts ?

    Also: Re the BIOS settings:

    Do I want:

    "BIOS DEFAULTS" or,
    "FACTORY SETTINGS"

    Thanks,
    Bob

I would suspect something other than Windows 10 is the problem.

What did you do with the Media Creation Tool? Did you a complete reinstall or some type of repair?

The Dell documentation doesn't detail the BIOS options. Generally, Defaults and Factory Settings are the same. I'm on the Dell forums but don't recall seeing this option before.

More on the blank screen and won't boot normally is needed. Just that statement doesn't really help trying to determine what is wrong.

There are Diagnostics (or there were, if you wiped the hard drive) on the hard drive accessed by F12 (on most Dell's) at power on. Run all the diagnostics and see if that shows anything.

If you haven't already have a look in Settings > system > power & sleep. See what plan its on etc. Maybe its going into sleep or hibernate. At the very least I'd set both "turn off after" to never. At least until you sort out what's going on.

What is Reliability History showing? Control Panel>security and Maintenance>maintenance. If there are red flags then click on "view tech details"and check out each report.Normally the cause is given and you can search for a fix,if available.
