Why cant I use the search facility?

Following a number of oddities and quirks, I decided to reset one of my laptops (including knocking out the files)
The laptop is running 32 bit system. Version 1909 (OS build 18363.476)
Reset went well with no apparent hitches. Added the programs I wished to use etc, and sent data from other computer to finalise to the point at which I was satisfied. THEN, I went to use the search facility -
Push search on the taskbar, and the new window appears, but in a moment it then disappears, OR it stays but will not accept
    any typing in the box.
Would appreciate any help and guidance on this annoyance.
    Thanks in advance
    CJ

I've encountered this several times. The only solution I've found so far is a full system reset.

The following might work too, though have not tested it yet in this scenario:
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

    Many Thanks GreenTea

tried all the usual/recommended fixes without success, so did a reset - all now appears to be well.
    Thanks again

    I spoke too soon !!!!!!!!!!
After a short while, again the search facility stopped working, PLUS windows edge would not load.
    Further thoughts welcomed.

I may have found a workaround. albeit purely by chance!
I was all set to completely wipe the HDD and start with a fresh install. I was going to download a latest copy of windows using the media creation tool.
I saw (for the first time) the option to 'upgrade' the installation without the loss of apps and data. With nothing to lose, I went down that route, which took an age, but at the moment all is working (search and edge) OK.
Now running a manual windows update, which hopefully will not alter the progress made.
    Will report again.

All now seems to be functioning as it should.
Having done TWO resets with problems following - using the 'upgrade' option (via media creator) got the required result in half of the time!
    Lesson learnt I think.
