Error code - 0xc000014c...tried a few things, no luck

    Heres my situation...

    Dell Inspiron 15 - 3521
    Windows 10
    Error code - 0xc000014c
    I already tried - cmd chkdsk C: /f /x /r twice, no success.

I have the windows disk, just don't know what I do next. If I reinstalled Windows would I lose everything?

    Thanks a lot guys.

Edit, just went through these too on the CMD
    bootrec/fixmbr
    bootrec/fixboot
    bootrec/scanos
bootrec/rebuildbcd - this 1 led to issues however, the question comes up is, "Add installation to boot list? Yes (Y)/No(N)/All(A)......all three options lead to "The requested system device cannot be found."

Hi Tmxx1. Welcome to the TenForums @Tmxx1

Were you able to boot your machine or at least get your data?

    Ken

Edit: Do you have access to another machine?

I am unable to get past the "Choose an option" blue page options. So I can get to the command prompt/system restore/system image recovery/startup repair/go back to previous version. Everything besides the CMD leads to a dead end.

And if you mean able to get my files/folders...nope.

I do have access to another machine though, as well as my phone if that helps.

Thanks for the response by the way

Okay. First you need to get your data.

If you create this disk you should be able to use normal window functions to get your data. That is the priority.

Windows 10 Recovery Tools - Bootable Rescue Disk

I would then head to the Windows Media Creation tool and create a USB key

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/soft...load/windows10

This key will contain V1709. It will be bootable and you can invoke repair (although it may not work.)

I would first concentrate on data with Kyhi's recovery disk.

I went through Kyhi's link twice, no luck. I took my usb drive to the working computer and first put the x86 version on, went to the bad computer and tried to boot from the usb and it says that an operating system was not found. Then I tried the x64 version and the same result happened. I do want to boot from the recovery disk, correct?

Okay. I assume your machine is a 64 bit system so you download this file.

    Attachment 166297

Then you have to mount the iso, the file you just down loaded, with a tool like this.

    http://wincdemu.sysprogs.org/

then burn your DVD. Then place the DVD in your Dell and boot from DVD. I think on Dell it is either F12 or f10 to get boot menu.

    Try this and post back.
