Fall Creator Update Screen Turn Off Issue

Ok, since the 1709 update my screen turns off after 3 minutes. No matter what. No matter what my screen setting or sleep setting is at. A billion minutes or Never. Screen shuts off in 3 minutes with the lid up. The pc doesn't go to sleep, just the screen turns off. I've disable/re-enabled, uninstalled/re-installed my display driver and no change. If I disable or uninstall the display driver (Intel HD Graphic 5300) and leave it unabled/uninstalled it doesn't turn off after 3 minutes. Once I re-enable or re-install the driver it's back to the 3 minute shut off. The driver won't update (says there is none). Hybernation is disabled.

    Acer Aspire Switch 11 (SW5-173)

Anyone have this issue or a fix? TIA.

    Hi Master Blaster.

I think I might try these items.

Check screen saver settings, even if disabled, enable it and set time to high number. Restart and then disable.

Next, restore default power plan settings, restart, test.

Next, try another power plan, not sure if you have Max type plan.

Does Acer have any power mgmt software loaded on device? did it? If so you might want to try restoring and see if this corrects, long shot but might be worth trying.

Brothers, thanks for the reply. Problem now solved! It was in the thread "dalchina" directed me to. It seems the issue is a few years old although I never had this issue until updating to 1709. Thing is, the "boss lady" here has the same exact Acer Switch 11 with the exact same settings and setup and 1709 update and she has had no such issue. Then I noticed I had eliminated the Hyberfil using Command Prompt (as I always have) and I forgot to do hers. I wondered if that had anything to do with it but after I eliminated her Hyberfil she still doesn't have the isssue. Anyway, this is what fixed it:

    1. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\PowerSettings\238C9FA8-0AAD-41ED-83F4- 97BE242C8F20\7bc4a2f9-d8fc-4469-b07b-33eb785aaca0
    2. Double click on "Attributes" and enter the number 2.
    3. Go to "Advanced Power Settings".
    4. Click "Sleep", then "System Unattended Sleep Timeout" (which wasn't there before), then change these settings from 2 Minutes to 0 minutes (it was set at 2 minutes).

According to the thread the fix for this issue wasn't the same for everyone but this one worked for me. Just a freaky deaky deal I guess. Thanks again bro's for responding!

Straight up bro. One of the few reasons I surf anymore since the interent has become such a deep hole of aggressive advertising and other vile crap. You can learn, be reminded of and solve just about anything.

I send my warm affection "across the pond."
