    Hi Ed,

As of this morning, everything is working properly. I think my problems may officially be solved!

A couple of questions to pick your brain as I aim to better understand a few things. When you say "motherboard leads", are you referring to the pointy things (for lack of a better description) on the back of the board? What are these exactly? Are they soldered points? And if so, what has been soldered here?

Additionally, what exactly is the purpose of the stand offs? Do they just help elevate the board from the case so that these mobo leads don't make contact with the metal case shell? I would assume this would be the purpose because if the mobo leads are soldered then I would guess they would carry electrical charge and touching the case could cause a short? Is this correct?

BTW, we apparently live only about two hours from each other if you are located in Round Rock. Small world!

Generally, mobos get built by dropping various assemblies into them that meet up with on-board traces. The assemblies have wires sticking out of them, and they fit into matching holes. The mobo the goes into a "solder bath" where those drop-in items get soldered so that they make electrical connections with the traces. The wires sometimes don't get trimmed as short as they should be. Those are the "pointy things" you're talking about. What gets soldered depends on which devices are attached to those wires, but they include things like the CPU carrier, the audio chips, the networking chips, the Northbridge (or chipset) chips, and so forth.

As for the standoffs, they're bronze spacers that lift the mobo up from the case, presumably high enough to keep those pointy things from shorting out. So yes, your presumption is correct.

And indeed, it is a small world. Look me up if your travels take you to the Austin area!

you said you have bootable W10 1709 (Fall Creator's Update) USB.. A usb containing a windows update is not bootable as it is only an update file not containing the bootable information. You need a proper wins 10 usb stick and Rufus is mainly used to create bootable Linux usb sticks.

The USB generated by the Media Creation Tool is bootable.

A USB containing install files of Windows 10 version 1709 is what is meant.
