Find out through the Serial number on the device. 4th, 5th, and 6th characters to reference when the product was built. The first character is the year date (Y) and the next two (WW), the week in that year it was made.
Wouldn't it be MDDYY Month, Day, Year. And therefore, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th characters to reference when the product was built? By looking at the numbers, my way would make more sense. Do you have the link that tells us this? I could not find it yet.

Run showkey plus from this forum and see if it gives you any clues from OEM information stored in BIOS/UEFI firmware:

    That looks very promising Navy!

Brick and Mortar stores have their own version of low end laptops that they can ask for a different version of pre-installed windows vs. what you would get from ordering directly from the OEM.
That's some good info bro67, I'd forgotten about that!

It's also unusual that this laptop is not listed on the 1709 Upgradable Laptops??? But there is a new Update for the BIOS on the page? lol, you bad bad HP People. I think I'll Update the BIOS to better be ready for 1709. That's pretty sad that they don't list a laptop shipped with Windows 10 to be able to Upgrade to the latest Update? Personally I think the page is not up to date, do any of you have good experience with the HP sites, and how up to date they keep them? HP 15-ac158nr

No, because they go by week of mfg (1-52) and year.

As for you making the LOL as if it is a joke on why you asked, this topic is finished. I gave you the information on how to find out the year and mfg, along with the Serial Number can be used on HP's Support site to find what it shipped with.

Sorry, I don't understand why you are offended, or which LOL you are referring to, the one about HP? that was the only Capitol LOL. I did not ask this question as a Joke and am sorry you are offended as that was not my intention.

Now you are saying this topic is "Finished"? What does this mean, you are done with it, or you are Closing it, because it sounds exactly like you are closing it? Otherwise you should have said: "I'm done with this topic"

Just trying to understand how it all works, because the numbers don't make sense to me. Software was installed on 12/18/2015, but supposedly, from the info you presented (that I also found on the web) says it was made March of 2016. So this date is a little misleading to folks like me. Maybe the software was installed this long before the Manufacture Date was created, I don't know.

No Navy, ran out of time and wasted too much time as it was. I will surely use Showkey Plus soon though as I run into this all the time. I very much appreciate you linking me to that Software, it will come handy very soon I'm sure! I Updated BIOS and Upgraded to 1709, it don't seem to run all that well on that laptop, and Windows Photo Viewer is very slow to load, or is it called Photo Viewer now?

    Thanks, FunkMaster
