How to stop read aloud menu popup

Every few words I type in any text editor, a series of popups appear--stalling my typing. They ask if I want to read aloud, copy, paste and select all. Then the read aloud voice starts reading my page and re-orients my cursor so it appears along with the voice and causes typos. Surly there is a way of turning this off or fixing it. I am a writer and it is driving me mad!

    Welcome to TenForums @DonSchaeffer

Sounds like you have the Narrator turned on, by accident or choice. Go to' Settings > Ease of access > Narrator' to turn it off, or adjust its settings.

Bree: thanks. The narrator has been turned off all along. I don't think the slider works.

I think it's a glitch when I installed the upgrade. Is there any way I can have to upgrade re-installed without losing all my software?

You can repair install Windows 10 without losing your personal files, settings and installed programs.

You could also check Narrator settings here:

I should never be trusted with this complex software (lol). I am afraid to try the refresh. I went to the menu you suggested and pressed my spacebar over "start narrator." Then I couldn't get it to shut up until I rebooted. Still, after a dozen typed words I get a sound and a menu comes up with a "read aloud" option, halting my typing until I left click the mouse. Following that I get a narrator reading my copy and toying with my cursor. A menu appears in the upper right of my screen with a <||> and a small narrator icon. I have to click on an X to the right of the narrator icon to shut it down.

Sorry to be so persistent but I need help!

Do you see the check box 'Always read this section aloud'? Do you see it isn't checked? That's how yours should look if Narrator is off.
Changing it from checked to unchecked you put your mouse pointer over it and left click your mouse.

I solved the problem completely by hooking up a new USB keyboard to my laptop. It will take some adjustment but the problem is gone!
    Thanks everyone.
