Does anyone know how to get rid of the line without installing the uxstyles program?
The line is there to make it prominent that the program is open. Under WIndows 7, the whole square was coloured. I think I prefer the line.
75 posts and you haven't responded once unless of course I missed it. We don't have any idea what the problem is.
However you can go to

If you get a chance to look at a Macintosh computer you will notice on their Dock that open programs have a dot under them. Who stole from who in that feature/idea?
Can you remove them without installing a program that adds a whole bunch of feature?
Im really not interested in messing up my taskbar, i just want the lines to go away.
