Blank Space beside Drive Icons W10 Fall Creator - Fix?

I've found but less than a handful of reported issues about this online and am wondering if there has been any progress or notification about it as well as if there's a do it yourself hack I can take advantage of to remove the blank space next to the drive icons in Windows 10 Fall Creators Update? I'm a super user and customize my system solely for the purpose of my own enjoyment and aesthetic appeasement.

That area is used if you show "Item Check Boxes" under View. So I assume it is reserved for that function.

Yes and then it just bumps the space over. There never used to be that much blank space before and as far as aesthetics go, it's very unbalanced looking. Thank you for your response! I will continue to investigate further.
