I think its Windows Error Reporting service causing high CPU usage which could be the reason your computer freeze.
Cool! THank you. I'll test it tonight at 1:07 AM.. and see what happens and report back if disabling this Windows Error Reporting service solves the problem. Hope so

Hi, after upgrading to Fall Creators Update, I found deactivating Location globally in Settings>Privacy>Location generates that Event in Events log. If you activate Location, you ll probably get rid of the Event that I am quoting above.

In my case, I rather deactivate Location for the device so thats how I have it but I get the Events after booting the computer and again, every few hours. In my laptop, CPU is fine and all is well. No harm, either way (activating/deactivating Location).

I forgot to post these Events in Event Viewer that I copied and pasted into my notes a few days ago.

I'm not sure if these events point to additional causes or not..
    Code:

The description for Event ID 32768 from source GeneStor cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.
    What is "Genestore?"

    and this event too.

    Code:
Windows Hello for Business provisioning will not be launched.
Device is AAD joined ( AADJ or DJ++ ): Not Tested
User has logged on with AAD credentials: No
Windows Hello for Business policy is enabled: Not Tested
Local computer meets Windows hello for business hardware requirements: Not Tested
User is not connected to the machine via Remote Desktop: Yes
User certificate for on premise auth policy is enabled: Not Tested
Machine is governed by none policy.

Just dropping in to thread, but in googling there appears to be a GeneStor and a GeneStore.

Can I ask what you use for AV. Have you scanned with a product like malwarebytes from malwarebytes.com?

Up until now I've just been using Windows' built in tools.

I just downloaded Malware Bytes and ran a full scan. It didn't find any serious threats, it just quartened a few random leftover files that "could" be threats.. most of which are from a driver scan and update software that I recently downloaded, tried, and deleted when I thought originally this main issue could be caused by an outdated driver.

I quickly Googled GeneStor and didn't find much info, but it seems to be related to some kind of driver. But not clear which one.

    Cool, so a quick update.

This issue was happening every day at exactly 01:07 AM. Since I disabled Windows Error Reporting.. so 01:07 AM has come and gone.. and my laptop didn't freeze, so that's good news!

Now I'm only wondering two things..

    1. Is there still an underlying error somewhere that was causing Windows Error Reporting to open?

    2. Will having Windows Error Reporting disabled hurt anything?

Thanks for any help, ideas, or input. Otherwise, I will mark this as solved.

I told you why you got that Information Event 1001 based on the information you posted and how to get rid of it, but you ignored it. :)

I also get it, for me, it doesn't cause issue, and can get rid of it at will (all I have to do is enable Location, but I rather keep that setting disabled)

By using Windows Error Reporting, Windows can send descriptions of problems on your computer to Microsoft and look for steps you can take to solve them. Windows Error Reporting is enabled by default.

If you choose to send generic information automatically about a problem, Microsoft will send back either the most current solution or use the information to start working on a solution.

Tell you the true i never come cross where Windows Error Reporting help me figure out problem with Windows OS but maybe it work for others.

When you disable Windows Error Reporting service you just don't send Microsoft error logs and you will not receive solution to error if there is one.

GeneStor.sys is part of GenesysLogic GeneStor and developed by GenesysLogic according to the GeneStor.sys version information.

Can you check Device Manager for any missing device driver.
