Just open task manager, find "Windows Explorer" -> right click and end task. Then run new task and type explorer.exe to open it again. Amazingly your icons appear again :))). Just tell me if this help you.
Thank you. I'm good now - most of the time I put the laptop to sleep in which case I still have the battery icon when I start up again. When I do have to restart, I just follow the "disable and enable" suggestion and I'm back on track.

Go to device manager disable both 'Microsoft AC Adapter' and 'Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery'
    Then Re-Enable them again.

Let me know how it goes...
This worked great I had tried some other fixes w/o results but this was the fix.
    Thanks so much!:):)

I'm kind of remember how all this problem started.
I was trying to download free Microsoft office for my laptops and my laptop antivirus defected a viruse after the download.
the threat wasn't really night and it's been removed.
but ever since, battery icon and volume sometimes disappeared and battery is disappearing when I turned off laptop and when turning on its not there anymore!
    any advice please?
    thanks
