That was a let-down. I restarted fully expecting it to still be working and it's greyed out again! Still hunting for a solution. It seems Windows 10 resets things during the prolonged black screen at start up. Someone mentioned updating the bios. I'm going to look into that.

If sitting w Win 10 Pro - this seems to work - at least for me. After 2 restarts w Win 10 wanting to update stuff in between. But now it is there. Still no locations though. That doesn't bother me much anyways. So this is to be considered as SOLVED So HUGE THANK YOU's to Angilson for actually finding a working solution for my system - and to Garenic for helping as well

But those without gpedit are still stuck w the problem. I for one had no chip updates in the way Garenic describes....

hey my gf had the same the problem with her laptop so I mess around with it and fixed it, hope it helps! windows 10 is awesome btw lol

    1. Go to start and type in gpedit.msc and press enter.

2.Navigate to expand User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Start Menu and Taskbar and disable "Remove the battery meter".

    3. restart

Hello, this issue has just arisen for me today,
gpedit.msc doesn't seem to exist on my edition of Windows 10,
oddly, it seems windows was aware the group policy editor is a thing that exists, it's just not installed.

This is aggravating. I wonder if getting the .msc and dropping it wherever it's meant to be would work, perhaps they just removed the msc from this edition and left the other things behind, thus it appears in search, but isn't actually available.

It seems to be fixed, so my advice is only partially valid. I was going to suggest a clean install if you weren't able to get it working, and would have suggested going with the 64 bit version to fully take advantage of the 6 GB of RAM you have installed.

    I have windows 10 Home,
I upgraded for free from windows 8.1

    I wasn't aware 32 bit win10 existed, I have 64 bit.

Not only does it exist, but if you are running a 32-bit version of 7 or 8.1, you'll get the 32 bit version of Windows 10.

Well that makes sense, though I am for definite running 64bit.
All this however isn't helping fix this battery icon issue...
