"go to device manager disable both 'microsoft ac adapter' and 'microsoft acpi-compliant control method battery'
    then re-enable them again."

Dis-abling & re-enabling the adapters worked for me but I had to refresh the battery device list (scan for hardware changes) first as only one adapter was showing.

The second device. 'microsoft acpi-compliant control method battery' was missing however once it updated I did as you suggested and works great cheers!

Thank you very much for your help. However, this only worked for me until I restarted my laptop... any suggestions on how to permanently solve the issue?

    It's simple

Just open task manager, find "Windows Explorer" -> right click and end task. Then run new task and type explorer.exe to open it again. Amazingly your icons appear again )). Just tell me if this help you.
