OK, now this is weird... suddenly my HDD behaves himself all of a sudden after checking every option. Computers are WEIRD! (even the bootup time is back up to speed!)

Resource Monitor can be used for checking many things. F.ex. if you wonder who/what is using your network connection
WiFi - then open it and click on Network Usage. Let the Task Manager stay in "Performance" view, then you also see
the transfer speed (Send/Receive speed in Kbps/Mbps).

Come to think of it, it might... :) All evening being quiet, no constant HDD light on, nothing. OK, some normal activity but no endless loadings......
