Menu Bar suddenly doesn't show anymore

    Hello,

In Explorer (so, folders and My PC and such. In Notepad, Internet Explorer and such the menu bar is still visible), the menu bar (the one with "file, edit, view"-etcetera) has suddenly disappeared and been replaced by the ribbon, even though 1 of my first actions when I first got Windows 10 (since its release, so a very long time ago already) was to hide the ribbon and show the menu bar.

Hiding the ribbon again is no problem, but I can't get the menu bar to appear again.

In Folder Options "always show menus" was unchecked, so I thought it was a simple means of checking it again, but still no menu bar, even after a restart.

I've also checked the registry, but AlwaysShowMenus is at 1 as it should be. Deleting the registry key and having the key re-made by once again checking "always show menus" properly remakes the key but doesn't fix the problem either.

It's probably something really obvious but for the life of me I just can't figure it out. Anyone knows how to get the menu bar back?

Hello GamerXYZ, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

I'm not sure what you mean. File Explorer in Windows 10 has always only had the ribbon, and not a menu bar. The menu bar no longer exists in File Explorer. Even if enabled via the registry.

Did you use some sort of 3rd party program (ex: Classic Shell) to add a menu bar like option instead?

    I don't think he did
I'm not 100% positive, but recently, they removed this feature. I know this because I can't find it either. I too, had my windows 10 set up this way by a computer specialist when he made this computer. Oddly enough, since the new update, the file bar disappeared entirely.

I definitely always had the menu bar, and I don't use any third-party modification. Also, before making an account here and opening a topic I did some Google searching to see if I goofed something up, and I found plenty of "go to Folder Options and check Always Enable Menus".

But since bnthomason experiences the same thing, I suppose a Windows Update removed it then. Reminds me of how they also removed IE11's URL-bar's double function as both an URL bar and a search bar, and now made it mandatory to have a separate search bar next to it that can only be removed by having tabs on a separate row. I guess Microsoft's simply waging a war against choice

Suppose I can only hope now there's a registry tweak.

Menu Bar etc. in Windows 10

I had menu bar and the look of W7 in my W10 install but recently I reinstalled it. I was going crazy trying a lot of tricks to no avail.

But finally I found again how I did it. It wasn't Classic Explorer (which you may install with Classic Shell). Here it is.

    OldNewExplorer

It works with localized versions (I use the Spanish one and the explorer windows are fully translated).
