why does My Windows 10 shuts down when idle?

    Hello friends,
I have windows 10 Pro (1703 build) running on HP 820G2 laptop with latest drivers and updates. I also have Kaspersky internet security latest version which shows no threats on my laptop.
There's no problem on my laptop except for its automatically shuts down when idle (maybe within 30 minutes or so). Hence I checked "Power Options" but none of the options set to "shutdown" and am using default "Balanced". Not sure why it is behaving like that, Please see below screenshot and advise, Many thanks in advance!!

Go back to the Power Options shown by the screenshot you posted.
Click the pointers and select Never.

Thanks both for your inputs, much appreciated!!

But the settings you suggested seem to be for "display off" & "sleep" only but NOT for "shutdown". Here my concern is about auto-shutdown. I would like to prefer the display off (after few minutes) & sleep (after few minutes) but it should NEVER shutdown. Am I asking too much or missing anything? (sorry for my ignorance if any).

    Thanks again!

What do you mean by "shut's down"? Are you sure it's shutting down and not going into sleep mode? When it does go to shut down, how to reactivate your laptop? Try tapping a key or using the mouse pad......does it come back on?

I mean "completely shutdown" when I say "shutdown" no key works and no power LEDs on etc. After booting, Everything fresh on the screen (unlike hibernate) and and when I run chrome, it asks to recover the last open-tabs (this should prove that it has shut-down).

When I googled this problem, it seemed many users seem to have this issue. For e.g., Windows 10 Shuts Down When Idle - despite changing Power Settings - Microsoft Community

    Thanks!

This is a log collector that we use in the BSOD forum. It will collect the event.vwr, msinfo32, dxdiag, even if there were no bsod.
Please run the DM log collector and post a zip into the thread:

Advanced settings and disable Hibernate after which is set to 180 minutes.
To get a list of shutdown event with date and time, we can take use of Event Viewer to filter Event ID: 1074 and 109 in System Event log.

    1. Open Event Viewer with Eventvwr.exe
    2. Navigate to Windows Logs\System
    3. Right-Click on it and select "Filter Current Log…"
    4. Input 1074,109

    5. When you filter them, you can track down its shutdown type, date and time, and who has shutdown it.
