Please let us know if this works. I have the exact same problem and it only started happening only after the newest creators update. Nothing else was changed.

It’s only happened to me once since Tuesdays fall creators but yesterday all my thumbnail cache rebuilt itself. I don’t use sleep or anything like that. It just did it out of nowhere. Was going into my pictures folder and it just did it. So seems there is something going on that makes it seem a little prone

    Hello everyone,
Sorry for my bad english, I'm french. I have the same problem too since the last fall update 1709. No 3rd party software, for me it's not a software issue, it's a Windows problem, maybe with the automatic maintenance. Probably something broke during this update. I think it's odd that many people have exactly the same dysfunction...
I keep looking for a fix. Thanks

You guys could try the Automatic Maintenance batch file here that FreeBooter posted. It allows you to disable it, and you can also re-enable it, so when this problem gets fixed, it can be enabled again. I've disabled it with, FreeBooter's file; 7th post on the first page. I will post here again with results. So far it's working.

Thank you Konally, okay I'm gonna try that. Thanks also to FreeBooter for his batch file. I'll keep you informed.

I am just confirming that I have the same issue with the thumbnail images for both pictures and videos being deleted every few hours after updating to the Fall Creators Update of Windows 10 Home 64-bit. This problem did not occur before the Fall Creators Update and no new software was installed on this system after the Fall Creators Update was installed.

Windows is configured to turn off the monitor after one hour, but sleep/hibernation mode is disabled.

Windows Defender is the only security software that is running.

Outstanding QA once again from Microsoft. You wonder if they even use their own os as surely things like this would be noticed

I remember having this issue with Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1.

With Windows 10 it was finally fixed but since the Fall Creators Update it happens again and the thumbnail cache gets deleted even more often than ever before.

I will now run the script from FreeBooter and see if that helps.

Yes, I remember windows 8.1 had a task that ran weekly that would clean up your computer to make it more "efficient". You would disable the task and it would re enable itself on reboot. I was happy when windows 10 fixed that problem but now my thumbnail cache gets deleted daily with the new update. Its something that users with large image and/or video libraries which gets accessed often, will notice right away. I hope this script will fix the problem.

Well, it seems that FreeBooter's Automatic Maintenance bat file fixes the problem. I woke the PC up from sleep and the thumbnails didn't clear. Thanks a lot FreeBooter. I hope it works for everyone else, too
